India basks in a nuclear afterglow

The Nuclear deal reeks of stupidity. The US is going to reward a Nuclear #### (india) which used plutonium from its canadian reactor, used american technology to explode a "peaceful" nuclear bomb in 1974. It then used American technology given to its space program to create the agni and prithvi missiles (Based on the scout missile). India has also helped Saddam's Iraq, Iran and Libya with their nuclear ambitions. as far back as Dec 2005 , 3 indian nuclear firms were put under US sanctions for illegal nuclear trade with Iran .

India simply can not be trusted.

Zeeshan Edit: You have your own opinion. I respect that, but please dont insult other countries.

Nuclear terrorist ?! Now thats a new term. LOL. But yes, the reality is that US is going to reward India for being a Nuclear terrorist. Really Stupid, ain't they?

.
What i believe is that its no "reward" but actually its a way to get India interested and more closer strategic ally of United States. The card is being played against the China, just to alert them, but again this will cause China to have more defence expanding.

So i see it nothing but useless, unless the intention is really to help India while looking for more economic trade etc.

.
Well, what i meant by india being a (Nuclear Terrorist) was not that its a terrorist state by exploding nukes and holding the world hostage.......But simply that it destroyed the NPT by exploding a Bomb in 1974...and then again in 1998, thus distrupting the world nuclear order on both occasions.

Now its a given that india needs energy to fuel its economy and needs to import nuclear fuel and technology from NSG countries. That being said..india also wants to fullfill its dream of becoming a world power by finally mating Hydrogen Bombs on ICBMS. India does not have the technology to make Fusion (Hydrogen) bombs. Therefore with this deal...india gets all the latest technology to produce bigger and better Nukes, gets the tech to make Nuclear Submarines and of course buy civilian nuclear reactors from Russia, France and USA.

The interesting part is, that it gets to keep its weapons facilities and "civilian" program seperate thus according it the status of a De-Facto Nuclear weapons state.... all for the sake of pumping india up as a counter weight to China!

How could India destroy the NPT when it has never ratified or signed it in the first place? I dont understand your logic. And what 'world nuclear order' are you talking about?

What doe the Indo-US deal gotta do with India mating Hydrogen bombs or getting the tech to make fusion bombs? Both are two different things!. Indo -US deal only promises nuclear energy for civilian needs under IAEA safeguards.

And FYI miniature reactor for India's ATV project has been up and running from Dec' 2004.And The project will go ahead, with or without this Indo-US nuclear deal .

Just like China using Pakistan to counter weight India. Its just GeoPolitics. And the issue isnt that simple. India's growing market economy cannot ignored by the US.

Simply put: Achievement of selfish political goals and amassing of wealth in addition to tightening their grip on power. "Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely"!

Simple, they are sworn enemies. Iran was a close strategic ally of US during Shah's regime. Even now, most of the defence systems that Iran uses are of American origin. Iran is the only nation other than US to operate the famed F-14 "Tomcat" fighters(the US navy has retired these beauties,so that makes Iran the only nation that has these fighters).
The fall of Shah and the subsequent Iran hostage crisis made Iran the most bitter enemy of the USA in the middle east.
And Ahmedijinad's rhetoric about Israel isn't exactly helping Iran's case either.

That is the thing! China is NOT acting like anything because in the past it was pressurized by the US itself to stop co-operating with Pakistan on n-tech. And now that the US is undermining the NPT itself, it loses the right to say anything against any n-tech co-operations between any two states.

Exactly!
US not only pressurised China but also Canada and France to abandon and embargoe Pakistani nuke programme since 1977as Pakistan refused to sign NPT.

Its yet another fine example of US' double standard foreign policy.

All true Hammer!
But Iran is still a signatory to NPT and its has granted IAEA full access to its nuke facilities...
So there have to be other reasons to prevent Iran from gaining access to advanced nuke technology.

The US has always argued that Iran doesn't need nuclear power since it has abundant Oil reserves and nuclear power is more expensive than oil power. Hence they are suspicious of Iran's nuke prog.
But all these arguments would've meant nothing, had Iran remained a close ally of US.

someday the oil will run out then what will they do ?

Iran has every right to make nukes, US is the only country that has used nuke 2 times on civilians; I see hypocrisy here.

.
Iran can always use the argument, if a country like india can get Nukes, then surely Iran has a right to produce nukes for self defense. Iran signed the NPT and the CTBT....india has not !!!

Plus, Iran faces a Nuclear Threat from Israel. Also now with US forces in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Persian gulf...Iran is surrounded.

That will be for us to prove to the US and IAEA. We will have to keep the two types of reactors separate to gain any long term trust from the international community.

Yes US not teaching u making bomb nor any other country teachign anyone els its not the problem the main issue is when any country dosnt have means to enrich uranium or other related material means it has to wait for it for years or opportunity resultantly it slows the speed and quantity of new weapons but now india had the opportunity to add to its weapons more rapidly.
[/quote]
I don't thing we have that kind of money to blow up, even if we have capabilty of more speed production of N weapons.

Good God! Iran's recoverable Oil reserves stand at 130 Billion barrels!! That "someday" will only come after a Veeeery long time.

Thats the point I was trying to make. US would'nt have made Iran's nuke prog a big issue, had Iran remained an ally of the west. And Hypocrisy is common phenomenon in International politics. There are no angels here.
