No, there will not be any benefit of this train line to BD. Instead, open your border and build Customs houses with Tripura, Meghalaya and Assam. Many BD goods will pass through these ports to Indian NE. The present rail line is to benefit India only.

A simple google search will tell everyone any infra development helps local economy. Economists and planners even use standard multipliers to predict the impact on local economy of infra spend. So why this infrastructure development will not benefit BD is something we will never know. Surely govts make proposals and provide studies to justify their decisions. If BD had something like a right to information act they could have gotten hands on the proposal and proved their point for everyone's benefit.

But alas, all we will get is self pity. Never mind.

I see many Indians as usual showing us carrot of connectivity with puny Buthan (a defacto Indian state) and Nepal. Both economically useless and don't measure up to the huge strategic and economic gains Indians will make and subsequent vis-vis loss for BD. A country like BD can't make a equal deal with India regarding corridor. The awami mythical carrot of becoming singapore won't work in our case as we are geographically, economically and politically fundamentally different from singapore. We have potential to far surpass that tiny city state. India can easily cause serious problems if we allow this. Just think about the amount of terrorism and instability they can cause inside BD at their wimp. The amount of smuggling and drug trafficking they can do. They will have a free run in BD. It will give them huge leverage over BD even when BAL scums won't be in power. They started CHT insurgency and shuntu larma still whines every now and then. Not to mention bongo bhumi andolon and the Indian ambition of dominating our economy. Our economy and security apparatus is not strong enough to fend off all this Indian incursion. Its as simple as that.

If we have to give them corridor , then lets build up a strong economy first. And the whole thing should then be under our control.

-All incoming cargos should go through complete checkup by BD customs and our customs should have full right to do whatever it wills to do with any cargo.

- A complete prohibition of military and related equipment transfer.

- We should be able to close it any time we like. There can be clauses of compensation then requiring negotiations.

- Both parties should be able to opt out of the deal whenever they will.

- A appropriate corridor fee giving us a net profit. Indian traders can not have the same privileges as BD exporters. Logical. Why should we give it free as some awami dalal adviser suggested couple of years back.

- Complete prohibition from use of our port facilities. It should not be part of any deal.

-They should also offer some added benifits to make up for the huge economic gains they would make. Like giving us a one-sided free access to Indian market and transit to China.

Before all this all outstanding issues should be solved. The most important of which is the maritime boundary issue in Intl court. They have a scheme to make us sea locked through their awami dalals. BD can not afford such a rip off of national interest.

1. Firstly that is not true. Open trade has been going on because of various restrictions imposed by various elements in India, and it will continue. There will be absolutely no increase because of this link.

2. The point that you are avoiding is India's attitude. You must behave like a civilized nation first.

3. We know ever since 1972 India has been seeking thins links to exert more pressure on the NE freedom-fighters. It is in our strategic interest beside being a humanitarian issue that we do not allow anything that will jeopardize NE freedom fighters' struggle.
