For a continent of 1.4 billion people India's medal tally is outright humiliating, even for us (as we are sometimes confused with Indians).

In fact there's more excuses than medals for the Indian continent's Olympic failure. The excuses provided by Indian incels online range from "our culture is not sports oriented" to "we care about Cricket only" and "because Hindu don't eat meat" etc etc etc.

However everyone deliberately ignores the elephant in the room. That is Indian people's genetic limitation. Maybe they are simply not cut out for sports? When you look at their history it's full of one way invasions and never the other way around. Seeing the Olympic scores I imagine India's geographic location/barriers/distance actually protected them from ancient/medieval Chinese and Europeans quite well.

Not very surprisingly, the lone gold medal winner Neeraj Chopra comes from a caste in India, the Rors, who have the highest affinity to Europeans among all castes. See below for a comparison of genetic distance between North Indian Brahmins, Jatts, Rors and Europeans (represented by German and Irish). I used freely available population genetics data and the popular tool called Vahaduo.

As can be seen above, Rors have the highest affinity to Europeans, even more than Jatts, meaning they have the highest genetic contribution from ancient Central Asian groups (before the genetic landscape got changed by Turks). Everyone can do their own analysis with the publicly available genetics data - this is Science so rest assured you will all arrive at the same results.
So this further reinforces the genetic pov for Indian continent's abysmal Olympic performance.

If I am correct and the limitation is genetic and cannot be overcome anyhow, why not hire foreigners to do the job? The Marathas used to hire Arab mercenaries to defeat their neighbors. As long as Indians remain delusional about their abilities their Olympic medal tally will continue to remain at the bottom of the pile.

. . .
India the ones who saved the honour of South Asia in 2020 Olympics

(There is a better answer to all this and to also explain failings of Pak and BD at the Olympics, but wont deploy those answers as people donot want constructive dialogue, but trollfest)

Indians are not cut out for sports but they run global internet companies, do space exploration, are otherwise talented in music and arts. Where is Pakistan in comparison?
@Joe Shearer @jamahir @Dalit
Truth hurts? Don’t blame me, I didn’t make Indians.
Where are Pakistani medals since 1992? Pot calling the kettle black

The discomfort I see in your post is the exact reason I opened this thread. People are ready to discuss everything except the genetic angle regarding India’s performance. Anything else is not trollfest, but topic abt genetics is taboo yeah?

If only Pakistan didn't devote much of its smaller resources to the military it would have enough to have a proper space exploration agency and also be a welfare state.

Yeah Indians created internet and don't do industrial scale copyright violations of music and arts. You can create new thread for that, stick to the topic mate.

Okay since you directed the thread in a good direction I will take a decent stab at it

Take the case of gold medal winner

Unlike most Indian Olympic athletes he got the best training possible. His coach is an ex German Olympian and in the run up to this Olympics he trained primarily in Sweden.
He again proves the point many have been trying to make i.e.The difference is performance at the Olympics outside sprinting and long distance running correlates a heck of a lot more with the quality of training received in the 10 years prior to the Olympics than the average grip strength of countries.

Sure India has bad stock.....But its more because of rampant malnutrition, widespread vegetarianism, parasitic disease load

If we can put every veggie kid on whey protein from age 0, our stock would improve......but in the end training matters, coaching matters...and neither India, nor Pakistan, nor Bangladesh can afford that quality of training unless they become proper middle income countries ($10k nominal per capita).....we need a couple of billion euros worth of investment a year solely on Olympic sports.....Our women's golf team and entire shooting contingent did dissapoint though....that happens , cuz at the end of the day it is sports and its all the more bitter cuz Olympic comes around only every 4 years....

2008 was a false dawn..we squandered 12 years...if we can use this Olympics as a slingshot (more likely than not due to Congress not coming back another few decades), then I can assure that within 20 years , India will regularly score double digit gold medals

Also Kabaddi,Cricket being there from 2028 Olympics onwards open new aveneues

remember India won javelin gold in a pure muscle bound Chad sport like Javelin and not ch***iya sport like table tennis or eventing or something

Genetics undoubtedly does play a role in certain sports (ex. African domination of track), however the main factor is always going to be the level of state support. Asian countries; Japan and Korea dominated. A poor country with a small population; Cuba, also did exceptionally well, all because of strong state support.

India has immense potential in sports and by virtue of their population alone, I foresee them easily rising up to fourth or fifth in the distant future.

Again, I'm not denying that genetics does not play a role, but it's marginal in most cases, what matters more is the sports infrastructure of the country and the level of state patronage.

Richer states of South India seemed to outperform the more populous states of North India (barring North-west India)

Also, I find it very odd that a Bengali is berating an Indian on their genetics considering how Bengalis and Indians are very closely related.

This would be too simplistic of an explanation without putting forward the lineage of all the medal holders or the big names in sports from South Asia.
Personally i don't think genes have a large part to play here and the abysmal performance of subcontinent is mainly due to under-funding and neglect than anything else. Take for example the wrestling, Gama pehalwan was one of the top wrestler once, Hashim Khan and Jan sher Khan practically ruled squash, Pakistan and India collectively have more world cups in hockey, we have Neeraj Chopra now, India and Pakistan have obtained medals in boxing and wrestling in the past. All of these sports require tough mental and physical fitness.
The real problem here is the absence of ecosystem which can prepare future generation of athletes making it easier for South asian athletes to compete with their western counterparts.
It is too depressing to think that South Asia did not win medals as it should have.

Hockey and kabbadi are physical sports,in both India is ahead of Pakistan do you think genetics is at play here :-).

Bro Africans from Africa are very poor in Olympics except East African trio of Uganda,Kenya,Ethiopia and of course white built SOuth Africa (which is an outlier)

The famed West African genetics failed to win a single gold in Olympics...why? cuz whther those black genes grew up in a developed society or not matters

Sub Saharan Africa a vertiable desert in terms of gold..money matters in Olympics
