Economic aid only.
Total aid, economic and military to Pak has been much higher than India.
And unlike Pakistan India can survive without the aid.


The United States began providing economic assistance along and military aid to Pakistan shortly after the country’s creation in 1947. In total, the United States obligated nearly $67 billion (in constant 2011 dollars) to Pakistan between 1951 and 2011.

USA as in the Pentagon with field experience in Pakistan have openly stated pakistan uses militants in proxy war, U.S. democrats have openly criticised and blocked the aid number of times , India has every right to support the evidence their own government acknowledges .

I'm sure continuous lobbying will reduce aid to Pak even more so.
A clear diplomatic victory for India.

India is having some influence. It succeeds in some places and fails in others.

If has temporary succeeded on these F-16s. Temporary because the holds can be removed at anytime. It has succeeded in reducing aid to Pakistan. US asking only $860 million in aid for next fiscal year. Last year it was about $917 million, before that it was higher.

India has failed on many fronts too. Tried to stop helicopter deal. Failed. In fact, on matters of counterterrorism and fighting militancy, India will fail to convince US on Pakistan.

Sometimes I think India prefer US to cut off all relations to Pakistan. Unrealistic.

India today asked the US not to give USD 860 million aid including USD 265 million for military hardware to Pakistan, saying all such aids go directly into anti India activities.

“Our position on this has been made clear on a number of occasions. We believe that all such aids actually go directly into activities directed against India. It should not be given,” External Affairs Minister Spokesperson Vikas Swarup said when asked about the proposed US aid of USD 860 million.

Earlier this week, the Obama administration proposed USD 860 million in aid for Pakistan, including USD 265 million for military hardware, which it said would help the country fight terrorists, secure nuclear weapons and improve ties with India.

While there was no mention of Pakistan in President Barack Obama’s budgetary proposals, Secretary of State John Kerry in his proposals said the budget includes USD 859.8 million towards sustaining ties with Pakistan and making progress to “disrupt, dismantle and defeat violent extremist groups”.

“The requested funding will support the country’s counter- insurgency missions, and bolster stability, energy access, economic growth, and social reform,” Kerry said in a letter accompanying his proposals on February 9.

India is correct to ask for this. Since they are the cause for terrorism in Pakistan, they know the moneywill be used against them. Just like Kerry put it “disrupt, dismantle and defeat violent extremist groups”.

Clearly pointing finger at India.
