India announces huge defence budget

$600B in education? Please elaborate.

Does China has all free education?
教育部国家统计局财政部关于2020年全国教育经费执行情况统计公告 2020年,全国教育经费总投入为53033.87亿元。

In 2020, China's education inputs was ¥5303.38billion, $838 Billion USD.

India's defence budget is alone more than entire budget of pakistan.

Bhai koshish to aapne kare the. Par Bangladesh ban gaya.
Still, India cannot tackle Pakistan, let alone China. India always ends up having Fantastic Tea. And BTW if your budget was this/that much of Pakistan budget why are your 103 million people living in extreme poverty and 80-90% of the population does not even have toilets to relieve themselves.
Bangladesh is a 50-year-old story. Why not talk about recent events like 2019 (slapped hard by Pakistan), 2020-21 (slapped hard by China), and 2021 Afghanistan incident where Pakistan completely sunk your boat (Nayya). ?

The government is targeting gross borrowing of 14.95 trillion rupees ($199.90 billion) to support a bigger annual budget of 39.45 trillion rupees as it boosts investments in highways and affordable housing. read more

On a different, Reuters article, 40 billion dollars is going to be used for subsidies. I assume individual States will have a separate budget for subsidies.

Indians are soo used to "freebies", they become lazy. Riots happened in Kazakhstan, Iran and more countries when their respective governments cut subsidies.

what was India's education budget allocation in 2021?

I do not know because India has federal budget + separate budgets for each state. Both these budgets have education component in them.

The current govt is focussing on Infrastructure. In the next few years, India is going to spend $100B on Infrastructure.

PS: I am aware that Chinese numbers are gigantic, and Indian numbers may look small to Chinese. I do agree with the impressive accomplishments of China in the last 30+ years. Indian system does not allow that kind of very quick improvements across the board.

While I am not doubting these numbers, they are really really HUGE......I want someone to write an article on how / where such kind of money is spent year after year.

Actually subsidies is a common problem in the Subcontinent. Populism is a germ that keeps the entire region from achieving something on merit. People are good at producing mini-football teams at home but won't have lesser children and improve themselves. This combined with chaotic democracy exacerbates the problem.

This is why the governments are forced to spend more on subsidies than actual development.

does the "huge defence budget" finally include funds for haldi vaali daal and toilets for indian sainkis?

Pakistan has been forced to cut subsidies, due to debt pressures, same happened to many other countries. India today can afford to sustain it, but decades to come, situation most likely be different.

india should match chinese defence spending.

oh wait, india buys everything abroad, from bullets to jets...

india should totally have double the chinese defence spending. I'm all for it!
Nah, will put us in the situation of pakistan, with high military budget while infra crumbles.

I think this is good enough for now, would have liked ~90b but Ill take it. India has time on its side, will only outgrow its competitors with time. Military budget can creep up with overall budget increase.

Actually we cannot. Because of the population pressure, subsidies are simply not an option. We have to diversify faster, build more and secure more jobs while doing so. Jobs won't come with subsidies, reservations and vote bank clamouring. This is something most local-level politicians do not understand in our entire region. Though there are new city projects that are happening, the pace is slower than what we need to maintain. Much of this is due to the cautious spending we have to do, as quite a hefty sum of money is still going towards subsidies.

IMO, subsidies & reservations are like cocaine; those who are given these are benefits, will get addicted and would do everything to keep having it.

It is therefore better that Pakistan, due to whatever external pressures, is actually coming out of this cycle. People in your country will be forced to eventually change (it will be a trial by fire of sorts) and move towards getting newer skills and developing on the basis of their capabilities and willingness to work for what they aspire.

Our military budget has a massive, massive non-military expenditure, thanks to the huge manpower that we keep. We need to change the manpower-based approach and focus on more tech upgrades for each soldier. The late Gen. Rawat sir tried to push for manpower reduction, but now that project will most likely be stalled.

Today's forces are about tech and grit more than human waves.

The beneficiaries of subsidies will give kickbacks as long as it generates more subsidies. The cycle goes on and self-motivated from the very beginning.
