Till as long as the Americans were taking care of their bills, Pakistan had no such worries. They thought their relationship with China—deeper than the deepest seas and higher than the highest mountains—will see them through in case the Americans played truant. And then there was of course the Muslim brotherhood—Saudi Arabia and UAE.

This is important for pakistan to take note of above quote. Pakistan's main former funders for its growth are not its friends anymore....

Pakistan today is Anti-America to please Chinese and Anti-Saudis too since they are close to Americans .... As long as America, Pak and Saudi was in the same camp , pak dint have any issues either with Americans or Saudis .... now that their differences are too apparent its become more and more obvious that Pakistan needs to depend on chinese for all their investments .... but this is where their assumptions seems to be going wrong too

Pakistans period of peace and prosperity have always coincided with their association with USA and Saudis (including the recent Mushaffafs time when they last saw growth) ,Unfortunately Chinese association with Pak has not helped them economic progress that much !!!

I want to say same thing for all ASEAN countries, Korea and Japan. India card does not pay, or even US card will not pay in the long term. Must have own indigenous strength from a united Union ASEAN+. If those countries play India/US card, South Asian countries will play China card. We win, you loose. So choose wisely. Best is to not play any cards at all and play our own Union card. May not seem obvious or clear now, but time will make everything clear.

But look at Japan and S.Korea two of the most developed nation in Asia. They have achieved so much economically, in development and military wise with US backing. You can't say the same for friends of China. Maybe it's just Pakistan that fcked up their chance to develop with US assistance while most other US backed nations have flourished.
Hope rest S.Asia get more than just weapons from China and so far they seem to do well and not repeating the mistakes made by Pakistan. They are more interested in a economic relationship which will help their countries to develop.

It is purely the country's decision to engage China for the purchase of weapons, building of infrastructure, loans or other economic development etc. These are good options to counter-balance the threat of the regional hegemony, india absolutely.

As for the case of Pakistan, their relationship with China remains strong. China is among the top if not the top donor or investor in Pakistan. If you let a foreign company invest in your market, you will always expect competitions in the same industry. Healthy competitions are good for the advance of the industry. Do you think investments from other countries like US, UK, Japan etc are all charitable organisations which operate in your country for anything but profit making?
