India agrees to route aid through UN

NEW DELHI: Following Pakistan’s request, India has decided to route its aid of $5 million for flood victims through the UN. Ministry of External Affairs spokesman Vishnu Prakash on Monday said, “India had no problem with routing the relief material through the UN.” During a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Friday, Pakistan had welcomed India’s aid offer but asked New Delhi to route it through the UN. Prakash said the Indian government would keep in touch with the UN agencies concerned to work out the modalities. The money would now be donated to the UN appeal fund of $460 million. “We welcome Pakistan’s decision to accept the offer of assistance made by the government of India,” Prakash said. iftikhar gilani

Contrary to what is liked to be believed, the aid was not meant to score points.

So long as even one family is benefited the aim is achieved.

Now is the time to help , we have a lifetime ahead for animosity.

Principled stand my foot....at the time of such a desperate situation one has to be fool for dilly dallying Aid....anyways there is a saying better late then never....

Though interestingly not a single comment from across the border so far

India should insist UN to procure items from India at least.

Thats a stupid move by the GOP but then again we cant expect better from them either way. If so much of ego was there why accepted the aid in the first place and that too under the US pressure and once you did, every one knows Pakistan accepted aid from India, why the **** re route it, what difference will that make. Infact getting aid directly would have reached earlier.
