Do you really believe bhagat singh and his friends are more responsible for freedom ?
Even after their hanging you dont see any large scale armed struggle, more people are involved in peaceful opposition led by gandhiji.

I am not denying that they made great sacrifice, but I would say he was more like "Che" of India, more of an idealist and dreamer.

I am not saying gandhiji singlehandedly brought freedom, but if you want to take one name it has to be his.

No matter how well meaning his effort was, Bose was certainly pushing India towards disaster. Taking help from nazis and japanease to free your country is like taking help of a serial killer to ward off a burglar.
Do you seriously think nazis and japanese would have left us if they had been the victor?

Gandhiji's model for opposition is suitable if your opponent has complete superiority in power, but also has a sense of justice.
And before he came to the scene, not many were talking about complete freedom, most of them were fighting for a few concessions here and there. Freedom was completely an elitist idea, only those who could afford to study in UK understood it.

Rest of Indians could hardly differentiate between moguls, kings, nawabs and the new white kings. They did not have freedom before, they did not have freedom during british. Even during british period the areas directly ruled by british were better governed, laws better enforced than those ruled by kings.
