why not start importing from somewhere? that's US does.
Also why not start agriculture where there is enough water? start agriculture near ocean or somewhere there.
punjab has already lost so much water from the ground and it's becoming rajhstan eventually.

Punjab grows 3 main crops...........Rice, Wheat and sugarcane.
thats the livelihood of more than 75% population of Punjab.
But hey Punjab got the water of 3 rivers...........If punjab wont use this for irrigation its going to Pakistan.
but tubewells makes a problem.
Govt. is trying to encourage farmers to adopt comercial farming..................my uncle just got a grant for greenhouse from the govt. half of govt. half from my uncle.
But people seems economically satisfied with the ways they are in punjab.
but situation is bad in other states.
better promote Industrial farming............
I was listening to food processing minister of India at a seminar.............according to him India is using less than 0.3% of its potential in packed food industry.
that will be the best thing ............promote food processing industry................meat, milk, juices, eggs, wheat floor etc.........
farmers can benefit.
but again it comes to state govts................last govt. of Capt amrinder in Punjab contracted Reliance to set up 15 industrial units in all over punjab of vegetable proceessing in rural areas.
Village panjayates happily alloted them land because they were paying too much for it.................but next time Badal govt came and Reliance ran away
