Half hour from my place... :D

Bheemeshwar was the most magical place I visited. You see those tiny pink flowers on the rock face and the light whisper of waterfall. It is right next to an old Shiva temple and all of it overlooking the forested Sharavati valley. It is stuff fairy tales are made of.
Sad thing is, I haven't visited despite being so near... it is in my to visit list for a while though.. definitely next time when I return to my native...

Good thing it is off the tourist trail. I would hate to go there and see the place flooded with loud noisy crappy tourists. The priest lives below in the valley, all alone it seemed, and you have the temple and the waterfall all to yourself.

This place is definitely on my list too now! Magical!

Why Hindu temples are built next to water bodies?

The appropriate site for a temple, suggest ancient Sanskrit texts, is near water and gardens, where lotus and flowers bloom, where swans, ducks and other birds are heard, where animals rest without fear of injury or harm.[1] These harmonious places were recommended in these texts with the explanation that such are the places where gods play, and thus the best site for Hindu temples.[1][4]

Hindu temple sites cover a wide range. The most common sites are those near water bodies, embedded in nature, such as the above at Badami, Karnataka.
The gods always play where lakes are,
where the sun’s rays are warded off by umbrellas of lotus leaf clusters,
and where clear waterpaths are made by swans
whose breasts toss the white lotus hither and thither,
where swans, ducks, curleys and paddy birds are heard,
and animals rest nearby in the shade of Nicula trees on the river banks.

The gods always play where rivers have for their braclets
the sound of curleys and the voice of swans for their speech,
water as their garment, carps for their zone,
the flowering trees on their banks as earrings,
the confluence of rivers as their hips,
raised sand banks as breasts and plumage of swans their mantle.

The gods always play where groves are near, rivers, mountains and springs, and in towns with pleasure gardens.

Yep.. our place was quite one not long before. Sometime ago local TVs showcased couple of places and since then tourist inflow is horrible. Plastic, garbage, drunkards, you name it. Add to that tourists vehicles. Ofcourse, local people have benefited, but the environment has suffered. Sigandooru and Varadapura along with Jogfalls get maximum tourists. To go to Sigandooru, you have to cross a barge with limited space and tourists were so much that we have to agitate not to take their vehicles in the barge. Until recently, only local vehicles were allowed. It was a mess..
@kadamba-warrior add kanooru kote as well in the list.. nearby place, good for camping and hiking.

Thanks, I will. I frequent Sigandooru but rarely explored other places nearby. Too bad, how less I have explored of my own region.
