He is using a bit of perverted logic. The chances that ISRO's mars craft will be lost is >50% (Mars orbit entry is the most tricky part) If it does happen, he gets some bragging rights. If it doesn't, his comments get forgotten anyway. Smart, if the rest of the world hadn't seen it orbiting around earth before it went towards Mars.
