Then just 1962 there was a chance when ayub suggested ramiz ur rehman a confederation but that too was rejected citing the majority group (bengali) decide and what the state should look like.
From 47 to 56 it took almost a decade to decide a constitution becUse bengali elite wouldn't agree in the power sharing formula and state language. And even that constitution got guttered. There was big movement and riots for bengali language in 50s that even inflamed sinhi and pakhtun nationalism for their languages to be made state languages.
So don't cry over events of 71.. or hamood ur rehman report. The thing was done and dusted way earlier

Why did the leaders of West Pakistan try to impose a language on us that our people have already forgotten during 190 years of British rule?

You guys may not even know that Bengali Muslims did not attend secular schools during this period. They usually attended Maktab and Madrassahs and learned Arabic, Persian, and a little Urdu. But, neither Bengali nor English.

The wave of the education movement by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan reached Bengal only in the early 1900s. And when we just started to learn English and Bengali vernacular, suddenly west Pakistan-based politicians tried to impose Urdu on us in the 1950s.

No one could accept this bullying. Bengali is our language and your politicians started insulting that language to our surprise. How come a language is for Hindus only and not for Muslims?

The argument is like telling since the idolator Arabs spoke in Arabic, therefore, Arabic is an idol-worshipping language, and Arab Muslims should stop learning it.

He also said that provinces are free to choose their own language, any language, so there was no threat to anyone's mother tongue.
It was twisted by various actors, and to this day it is still being twisted and misrepresented. Only the first part is quoted but everyone forgets the second part.

I agree with Jinnah sahib 100%, as does every nation on earth because a common language is part of a nation building process and central to any nations identity. Urdu was not an alien language in East Pakistan. Even to this day much of the religious education in Bangladesh is done in Urdu, because large portion of Islamic literature is in the Urdu language.
