Yes but Shias venerate and ask them for help as if they have power in their graves. Saudi Arabia tries to make sure Sunnis don't worship prophet Muhammad (PBUH) but the Shias encourage it. I don't know a single Sunni who has ever visited a Shia shrine.

Well I read most of the people who followed Prophet Mohammad during his time and who practiced Islam are promised a place in heaven

Modern age Muslims are not even at level of a small thread of hair from their head

So various important figures in Islam after Prophet Mohammad are already credible to be good Muslims, specially his companions and family members.

Now why the followers of certain people afterwords had disagreement or disagreements is merely due to power struggle between monarchs, their sons and tribes

Imam Reza as I was just reading about him appears around year 800 AD
So that is 5-8 generations after Prophet Mohammad's main companions

By then their was alot of Civil wars , and inner conflicts between the Muslim world

But the least we can do is respect key figures regarded as a pious Muslim and let Allah judge people in afterlife , because it is only he , who can forgive anyone or ascend anyone great heights
