PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan inaugurated the first ever institute for street children, Zamung Kor (Our Home) on Friday.

Imran praised his ex-wife and the ambassador for street children in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Reham Khan, for highlighting the difficulties faced by street children in the province, saying, "The idea for 'Zamun Kor' was first presented by Reham Khan, and I give her all my gratitude for the support she gave to this project.

Children will receive lodging, food, education and rehabilitation at the institute. The rehabilitation centre can facilitate over 1,000 children up to the age of 12 years.

The PTI Chairman said that even animal rights are cared for in the West but in Pakistan, street children were forced into lives afflicted by drug addiction. He said that KP would be made a welfare province.

Earlier in November, Imran Khan launched a donation appeal for a Rs800 million donation to purchase equipment for Peshawar's Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital which is scheduled to become operational on Dec 29 this year.

I know with more than a million street children all over the country, this would mean very little but its nevertheless a great initiative. It would be great if he could set up some sort of fund where people could donate to finance such homes.

This was not the response that Imran Khan gave. The whole documentary looks at other parts of Pakistan as well....and the officials are always saying "our children" etc.. Don't let the first few minutes dictate the whole documentary message for you.

It is unfair to blame only Afghans for this, the documentary goes to some length to say this is a problem inherent in some parts of Pathan culture whichever side of the border.

It is surely an especially bad problem in Afghanistan, no disputing that....but there is definitely some carryover across the border....and not all of it is solely because of the refugees.

what about in parliament where they cant even pass a law against these? Or the courts where such scum bags walk free?

A small step in the right direction. The situation requires more and I am hopeful that Imran khan and other institutions will lead the way towards ending street children culture. The street children number has increased and so far it has been impossible to curb them but hopefully this will be what slowly expands and ends this.
