IMPERFECTIONS OF MODI’S PERFECT GOVERNMENT

The enlightened BJP’s leader Mr Narendra Modi coined a slogan in 2014:

“Save our daughters, teach our daughters”

Four years have passed since the slogan was first initiated and safety conditions for Indian women are constantly deteriorating, making the slogan seem quite hollow. There has been a 60% increase in the rape cases since 2012 out of which approximately 40% of rape victims are children. Ironically Modi’s so called perfect BJP ministers are mostly involved in rape and assault of women. There have been 21 cases reported against the BJP ministers in the past decade.

The recent rape incident of just 8 years old Asifa and at the same time, a teenage girl’s attempt to light herself on fire outside the residence of the state's top official are enough evidence to cast shame on the performance of the all knower Modi Government.

It is sadly observed that BJP has not been kind with the minorities specially the Muslim community which is expected to be the main issue for upcoming general elections. More than 600 academics from India and overseas believe that Indian government carries out repeated target attacks on minorities; Rapes are part of the same pattern. It is also believed that minorities face greater violence in states which are led by the BJP leaders.

The Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is facing a nationwide storm over the issue of safeguarding of women’s honor. Critics have pointed fingers at Indian PM Narendra Modi’s Government for not doing enough to protect the country’s women. Astonishingly he has remained quiet on the heart reckoning rape and murder case of the 8 year old Muslim girl, Asifa. When the outrage increased in domestic as well as international community and critics hammered the PM for his silence, only then PM Modi decided to utter words related to the recent rape cases. His comments: "Our daughters will get justice", were imprecise and tinted with the masculine attitude that infects most Indian thinking about women. This response to deadly incident of rape of a minor deserves a standing ovation for Mr Modi and his BJP leaders who formed “Hindu Ekta Munch” to support the eight men involved in the rape.

It can be safely said that these people have lost their moral compass, preferring sectarian divide over preservation of human rights. To address their religious differences with minorities, BJP members and supporters have opted to use rape as tool of subjugation.

India is the most dangerous country for the women. More dangerous than subsaharan countries when it comes to rape and sexual harassment

BTW you should have made the votes publicly visible.

IMPERFECTIONS OF MODI’S PERFECT GOVERNMENT ...

include cap lock apparently?

More, seriously, I found this BJP member had
a clear cut view on what is the problem in India :
Shaina N C, BJP national executive member and spokesperson, Mumbai

“If there is one thing that needs to be changed [in India],
it is the mindset of those who view women as nothing but objects.
Every time a rape happens, we should be outraged.
What is really important is fear of law, a strong conviction rate and social awareness.”

The 2012 law with its amendment after
the Jyoti Pandey horror is a first step &
"hopefully" is responsible for part of the
increase in reported cases by having to
some extant liberated speech and action.

I.E. More people reveal rape than before.

This does not mean that a real increase
did or did not take place for which stats
would be needed and I'm certainly not
backing despicable practices by GoI now.

But for the rape problem to subside, the
mentality has to change drastically first.
Tougher laws force that with a nudge in
the right direction but it is a long process.

What I'm saying is that to help the victims
and future potential ones, the narrative of
the fight against rape must "overlast" the
successive governments; be permanent.

Until one of these govts caves in and works at it!

Good discussion and good day, Tay.
