Remember that the IMF has not taken into account the 13% increase in BD GDP due to the recent re-basing to the 2005 year, so actual GDP per capita should be increased by this amount in order to have a fair comparison.

Actual Bangladesh GDP/capita rises from 1000 dollars to 1600 dollars in 2018. BD just overtakes Pakistan to get into 3rd place and is only 300 dollars behind India.

Good job bangladesh !!! looks like they fewer political thievs than Pakistan !!!

thanks !!!!

Man the Sri Lankans are doing really well too, well done to them. We should study what they are doing to advance their nation and try to learn how we can implement some of their policies and procedures in Bangladesh.

.
So the IMF are predicting that Bangladesh will have the fastest GDP growth rate in the sub continent post 2015 to 2018, interesting.

Since the current 2013 GDP is already over $1000, how are they getting $1406 by 2018, most likely the figure will be closer to $1600 by then. But this is still way off of what the Sri Lankans are, we need to work harder.

Next Developed countries..> Malaysia > Maldives > China > Thailand who is next in the ladder?

Good job BD! South Asia will be more exciting by 2018
Edit: Oh wow! The results are really quite different if we take a look at PPP!

Sri Lanka at PPP$10,000 before 2020? Only 5 years behind China seems a little odd. Maybe we'll just have to wait and see.

Bhutan is the true champion though, the electrical generation economy is doing great for them!

By 2018 BD will be at 1600 and Pakistan will be left behind at 1400 dollars but it is nice to see Pakistan speeding up to 5% by 2018:cheers:

India will be slightly ahead at 1900 dollars but BD will still be growing a little faster and the BD population growth is a little less, so GDP per capita growth should be a little faster.

While BD has no hope of catching Sri Lanka in the 2020s, India is possible so that would be the next country for BD to aim to catch up.

Nice to see all South Asian countries in the list doing relatively well. We need to get out of poverty as soon as possible as that is the number one enemy common to all countries.

If you're really interested you may want to read this:
http://www.treasury.gov.lk/publications/mahindaChintanaVision-2010full-eng.pdf
(English Version) - It is easier to right-click it and click download, it's quite large.

It basically outlines everything GoSL is trying to do between now and 2016.
It covers all the goals that the Government is trying to hit (for example, 100% of homes electrified by 2016, $4000 nominal GDP per capita by 2016, 98% literacy, aiming to get local universities in the top 250 worldwide, etc.)

It's going to be fun to see how many they achieve!

Does anybody know if BD has a similar report? Or even India or Pakistan? I'm really interested to compare the different strategies South Asian countries have!

SL has the highest GDP but why is the currency so weak? And from my friends I've heard the standard of living is also very good

.
Sri Lanka is not a miracle. Indian state of Kerala and Goa with similar population fair better than Sri Lanka in HDI and other living standard measures, infact Goa has higher per capita than Sri Lanka

If we leave out their appalling treatment of tamils, SL has done well.

I just hope BD does better than Indian and all those illegal BD emigrants go back to BD.

Sri Lanka has show impressive growth - Congrats to Bangladesh as well. As far Pakistan is concerned - It will take few more years to get ride of WOT & Energy shortages, But i expect growth slightly over than expected because of many new Projects under current provincial (No hope from PPP in Sindh) & federal governments.
