IMF Latest GDP Forecasts for South Asia

Pity is a good emotion for a nation full of Rapists and murderers. Save some for your tamil citizens.

The word 'moral' sounds hilarious come from a SL monkey  ...... best you can do is bully innocent tamil SL citizens. Try that same stunt with India and you will soon be sucking cokc for a living.

Then again fags like you will enjoy that more.

Why so much hate dude ? Check yourself for piles.. Drink some lassie and watch a Bollywood fantasy.. Will make you forget all the crap around you.. Like they always do.. Too much anger.. :omghaha:

Seriously? DO we need to compare Ourselves with Sri Lankan now? Lanka is considered as land of Rakshasa in our holy book. Indian state of Tamil Nadu itself is enough to give sleepless nights to Sri Lanka...Keep calm and let Tamils handle lankans.

I agree. Even Buddha could not turn rakshasa's into humans  ...... Sri. Ramchandraji had the right approach.

India and Pakistan have slower growth rate, they are in the last. so I think Bangladesh will lead the Indian subcontinent.
Good luck for Bangladesh!

What kind of BS is this? BD will "lead the Indian sub-continent"?!! Right, there's only 1 trillion dollar economy in the Subcontinent and it will be the sole one for at least another 3 decades. BD is starting from a very low base. It is frankly absurd to compare India to any nation other than really China and even then the comparisons are unfair. Comparing A democratic nation of 1.21++ BILLION people compared to SL or BD is quite clearly an incredibly flawed way of going about things. When one of India's states alone contains 200+ million people then what more is there to say??

You can check for piles when you come around to sniff my butt and kiss my @ss. Make sure your nose is dry.

Now go back to bragging about how many women you raped and fantasize about killing a few more tamils. Will help you recover from that massive inferiority complex you get from facing Indians. Too much cowardice :omghaha:

Why Sri Lanka, having a good performing economy is not investing much in science & technology..??

I agree. Even Buddha could not turn rakshasa's into humans  ...... Sri. Ramchandraji had the right approach.

lol..no need to reply them mate. they are too dependent on us,Their market is flooded with Indian products, heck we are the major import partners of Sri Lanka. I do not consider them even worthy of my reply on this thread, considering they are trying to bite the hands feeding them.

anyway, Haapy Dussehra, the day when the lankan Rakshasa named Ravan was killed by Lord Rama

because they don't need to. they flock in thousands every year to get admission in Indian universities.

Lovely note to end this nonsense. Happy Dussehra to you too.

Come to think of it, this fight with the present day Rakshasa were quite accidental and symbolic too. Good always triumphs over Evil.

If you're really interested you may want to read this:
http://www.treasury.gov.lk/publications/mahindaChintanaVision-2010full-eng.pdf
(English Version) - It is easier to right-click it and click download, it's quite large.

It basically outlines everything GoSL is trying to do between now and 2016.
It covers all the goals that the Government is trying to hit (for example, 100% of homes electrified by 2016, $4000 nominal GDP per capita by 2016, 98% literacy, aiming to get local universities in the top 250 worldwide, etc.)

It's going to be fun to see how many they achieve!

Does anybody know if BD has a similar report? Or even India or Pakistan? I'm really interested to compare the different strategies South Asian countries have!

Thanks for the paper I am into development economics, yes Bangladesh has a very similar set of objectives, though the metrics are somewhat different. I think the key is Sri Lanka's education policy, both at the grass root level and the university and research level.

I would like to see something similar to the Malaysian model of vision 2020, with all parties signed up to it and focused 100% on achieving those goals! though I must say Bangladesh hasn't done too bad considering all the hurdles in its way.

1. Lack of natural resources compared to other nations.
2. Political mismanagement and corruption.
3. Unfriendly regional neighbours.
4. Natural calamities.

We have made good strides, and have had consistent growth of above 6% for some while now. The next stage is to move to the next gear, industrialisation and the knowledge based economy. With costs in China increasing and naturally they are themselves moving on, Bangladesh can look into becoming the production centre for various sectors, though not on the same scale as China.

I predict in the next few years, you will see many of the factories shifting from China to Bangladesh, infact the trend has already started.

except for garments, what else can you produce? Infact BD's growth story is ONLY due to garments, the moment its demand falls in EU, BD would go back to square one because it has nothing else to support its growth

When measuring GDP per capita , using nominal numbers are useless. Comparison of PEr Capita income should always be done using PPP.

This is not BS at all when you consider that he was referring to living standards and not total GDP

Remember BD is set to go to 1600 dollars GDP/capita by 2018 when compared to 1900 for India.

India got independence in 1947 whereas BD had to wait till 1971, with a 9 month civil war in 1971 that caused much destruction. An independent BD has done a fair bit better economically than an independent India.

BD will never get as big as India GDP-wise, but it has the potential to become a wealthier country as far as the common man is concerned.

Remember BD should grow quicker and faster than India, as federal states like India can never be as efficient economically as compared to a unitary state like BD.

Indians have swapped for safety in numbers for living standards basically.

BD has other industries like pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding, IT and light engineering.

Currently BD is mainly focusing on reducing the amount of imports in needs in areas like pharmaceuticals (currently BD produces 97% of it's needs), shipbuilding and light engineering. This is having the effect of producing jobs in BD and also reducing the amount of imports now running into billions a year.

It is not just exports that contribute to GDP growth but also a reduction in the value of imports.

Since BD is a late starter when compared to India, it is only now reaching the stage where products in these areas are suitable for export. Already pharmaceuticals, ships and light engineering such as TVs and fridge/freezers have been exported. As the decade progresses then exports in these sectors will run into many billions a year.

You will need to give it 10-15 years but by then, BD will have a diversified export basket.

Lastly as for EU demand, BD is actively reducing the exposure by increasing garment exports to China, Russia and other countries. It will take till the end of this decade but the exposure to Western markets will drastically reduce by then.

Let's see, ship building, bicycles (one of the largest exporters), agri products, white goods, light engineering etc. Yes we are still heavily reliant on the garment sector, but that has a lot more growth in it, as we haven't started to add the value added element to it, infact you can expect the RMG exports both volume to double in the years to come as we take over from Chinese production and more then double in terms of value, we haven't scratched the surface as they say.

We are now looking to diversify to other sectors, one at a time...in a similar way to how Taiwan, Malaysia and Korea have developed, we are following the same pattern, setting up export orientated businesses throughout the nation, and EPZs.

We are focused on getting our nation out of poverty, by starting from a bottom up perspective, which means giving jobs to the most poor and women. Once the general population has a decent, liveable income local production and consumption will follow, we will then look at the top down knowledge based economy.

We will put our head down and work to achieve what needs to be done.

LOL you are quite funny..Anyone that went through the last few posts would have noticed that while SLns are arguing with facts and figures its your countrymen that were arguing like typical stereotypical Indians..

We tried our best to be polite but Indian seemed to be too uncivilized for a healthy argument !It doesn`t take long for them to bring out race , religion and slang ! When we don`t answer them in similar way they become even more arrogant as they start to think they are winning it

I just used only one word..its insulting but not bad compared to what Indians have been posting...If we start posting like Indians the ways to insult them will be countless as most of the worst stereotypes in the world revolve around them !

And also Indians know that SLns have a much better civic sense and we are cleaner ,`cooler`and prosperous than they are and this result a respect for us inside them whether they admit or not..
