Those Indian CEOs were educated at the best American univeristies not IITs. Sundar Pichai studied at Standford and Satya Nadella at the University of Chicago. 0% chance they'll get hired at Microsoft or Google with an IIT degree lol

Chinese institutes produced top CEOs that led many Chinese companies into the fortune 500 while Indian companies are barely featured in the fortune 500 lol.

Also, this ranking is based on emerging economies, so universities from USA, UK, Canada, Singapore, and Japan are not included.

I said 0% chance they'll get hired at Microsoft or Google with an IIT degree. They got hired with a degree from Stanford and UOC.

You said Chinese institutes don't produce top CEOs. Last tim I checked there were 230 Chinese companies vs 50 Indian companies in the fortune 500.

Where did I say that? I literally acknowledged (at personal level even in my case) what Chinese institutes can produce talent wise (CEO's are just one small part of it...there is far more that goes into the cogs and chains of world economy in case you didn't know).

You shouldn't go about painting everyone with same brushstroke here buddy...thats not the proper method to make your point. If some individual with Indian flag says something, does not mean its a whole population voice. Argue the individual on the specific merit....rather than the whole on the broad fuzziness.

MIT, Preston scholars who gets scholarship are often IIT rejected lot. Look at the BBC Documentary on IIT. No technology university or multinational can even think of their current status without IITians .
IITIans are different people. They have their own goals and thinking. After doing his masters from IIT chennai, my nephew left a very good job at the age of 25 and settled in a tribal area to do NGO work. He has taken one house on lease with steel sheet roof which has two lamps at the cost of Rs. 1000 rs. His monthly expense is rs 4000. He works on organic farming , education etc. His wife who is an architect works on data gathering on water tables. Whatever they do but their goals are high.

After clearing mains of IIT, my son couldn't clear final exam. He got tired and couldn't put his effort in last two months. He is in VIT now.

Good article. It is great the author has taken a more holistic view on the topic than just look at the recent period and he pointed out that meritocracy has existed and been practiced in China from ancient times and therefore they are certain level of acceptance that it is a proven system.

Since Tang dynasty, Chinese officials were selected primarily though competitive exams and promoted through rigorous performance assessments. This is significant not only from a political perspective but also an economical one as people from poor families can also have the opportunity and pathways to enter the political ranks, which were traditionally only open by noble or rich families. Becoming an bureaucrat is a viable career pathway for people from economically lesser family. This system enables the society to be re-balanced politically and economically constantly. It was to prevents the economically powerful family or class dominate the politics, which in turn solidified the economical power.

Modern China simply inherited and continued the practice. It is naturally not flawless but in general it has shown its merit once again.

So you cite a single example to dify data. Why don't you search about average education of Chinese and Indian diaspora on net and invites Chinese member for your help. Do you expect them to accept that Indians are more educated?

You are not going to prove anything by saying me to increase literacy rate of my country because those who are old and not literate are not going to get literacy at this age.

Do you know that by 2030 all countries in the world are going to face scarcity of skilled man power except India by 2030. We will have over 200 million skilled man power in excess of our requirement. So what I say is certainly not overconfidence.

Yes every country has its set of hurdles. No one is free of the issues. But I am talking to the larger concept/ideal of it. A country should aspire to be a meritocratic democracy with equal rights and opportunity for all.

It's funny you brought up the Tang Dynasty. I was just looking at some Tang Era stuff earlier...buddhist manuscripts etc. The cultural and economic sphere of China really hit its zenith (compared to world average) then I would say.
