IISc, IIT-Bombay in Top 30 as Indian Universities Move Up in Global Rankings

Those Indian CEOs were educated at the best American univeristies not IITs. Sundar Pichai studied at Standford and Satya Nadella at the University of Chicago. 0% chance they'll get hired at Microsoft or Google with an IIT degree lol

Looking to your brilliant knowledge, I think you must be educated in CPC reeducation camp. \Nobody except you would have posted such BS.

Chinese institutes produced top CEOs that led many Chinese companies into the fortune 500 while Indian companies are barely featured in the fortune 500 lol.

Also, this ranking is based on emerging economies, so universities from USA, UK, Canada, Singapore, and Japan are not included.

What are you spouting lol. Pichai is an IIT madras and IIT kharagpur alumnus. Without those he would never have got into postgrad at stanford.

Same goes for Mr. Nadella....he studied undergrad at well known Manipal uni.

Since when is the fortune 500 a be all end all? You CPC trolls like to dismiss number of HNIs in India as not reflective of India broadly....but strangely fortune 500 (no matter how much govt subsidy and SOE support given in order to simply make use of USD stockpile ...that is all not factored in) is suddenly a huge be all end all in comparison?

I said 0% chance they'll get hired at Microsoft or Google with an IIT degree. They got hired with a degree from Stanford and UOC.

You said Chinese institutes don't produce top CEOs. Last tim I checked there were 230 Chinese companies vs 50 Indian companies in the fortune 500.

LOL...I literally know people that get hired by them straight from IIT without a postgrad. Take your garbage broad-speak somewhere else dude.

You said Chinese institutes don't produce top CEOs.

Where did I say that? I literally acknowledged (at personal level even in my case) what Chinese institutes can produce talent wise (CEO's are just one small part of it...there is far more that goes into the cogs and chains of world economy in case you didn't know).

You shouldn't go about painting everyone with same brushstroke here buddy...thats not the proper method to make your point. If some individual with Indian flag says something, does not mean its a whole population voice. Argue the individual on the specific merit....rather than the whole on the broad fuzziness.

MIT, Preston scholars who gets scholarship are often IIT rejected lot. Look at the BBC Documentary on IIT. No technology university or multinational can even think of their current status without IITians .
IITIans are different people. They have their own goals and thinking. After doing his masters from IIT chennai, my nephew left a very good job at the age of 25 and settled in a tribal area to do NGO work. He has taken one house on lease with steel sheet roof which has two lamps at the cost of Rs. 1000 rs. His monthly expense is rs 4000. He works on organic farming , education etc. His wife who is an architect works on data gathering on water tables. Whatever they do but their goals are high.

After clearing mains of IIT, my son couldn't clear final exam. He got tired and couldn't put his effort in last two months. He is in VIT now.

@Tauren Paladin

Looks like you punctured a mighty ego. And burst a colossal balloon. No facts, just a foaming mouth.

An exaggeration without a reason to exaggerate. Apparently, some of us think with our flags, not with our brains. However, this does include an unwholesome number of Indians as well.

This should form part of every Indian member's signature.

Unable to understand the context. Can you please clarify a bit?

No.

He is working over time to expose his knowledge with the support of some professional (So called). Enjoy it.

Good article. It is great the author has taken a more holistic view on the topic than just look at the recent period and he pointed out that meritocracy has existed and been practiced in China from ancient times and therefore they are certain level of acceptance that it is a proven system.

Since Tang dynasty, Chinese officials were selected primarily though competitive exams and promoted through rigorous performance assessments. This is significant not only from a political perspective but also an economical one as people from poor families can also have the opportunity and pathways to enter the political ranks, which were traditionally only open by noble or rich families. Becoming an bureaucrat is a viable career pathway for people from economically lesser family. This system enables the society to be re-balanced politically and economically constantly. It was to prevents the economically powerful family or class dominate the politics, which in turn solidified the economical power.

Modern China simply inherited and continued the practice. It is naturally not flawless but in general it has shown its merit once again.

This is a study/observations by UK university. It states that chines students are very weak so far as higher education is concern. There is an article on PDF itself. You can find it. Check the education level of Indian vs Chinese diaspora anywhere outside these two countries. You will get your answer. Chinese are not known for having higher education anywhere like Indians.

So you cite a single example to dify data. Why don't you search about average education of Chinese and Indian diaspora on net and invites Chinese member for your help. Do you expect them to accept that Indians are more educated?
Please solve the problem of India's literacy rate.

It's not a good thing to be too confident. In many cases it's a joke.

For example, your reply let me feel India's elite talent is a massive escape from India.

You are not going to prove anything by saying me to increase literacy rate of my country because those who are old and not literate are not going to get literacy at this age.

Do you know that by 2030 all countries in the world are going to face scarcity of skilled man power except India by 2030. We will have over 200 million skilled man power in excess of our requirement. So what I say is certainly not overconfidence.

The one thing I would add is the proposed Chinese political vetting of all university candidates as a potential hurdle in establishing a true meritocracy.

There's plenty of room....scoot on over.

I've had a spat in this very thread over just this kind of thing. Seems to have mended though.

Yes every country has its set of hurdles. No one is free of the issues. But I am talking to the larger concept/ideal of it. A country should aspire to be a meritocratic democracy with equal rights and opportunity for all.

It's funny you brought up the Tang Dynasty. I was just looking at some Tang Era stuff earlier...buddhist manuscripts etc. The cultural and economic sphere of China really hit its zenith (compared to world average) then I would say.
