Like you said, he is a media savvy person and communicates to the audience he cares about. His audience doesn't care about Ravish Kumar or Barkha Dutt. They have a limited audience and they anyway would not be sympathetic to what he has to say. He can consistently win elections without giving interviews because he has a track record that voters are willing to back. So, why should he waste his time with interviews ?

Not just India, leaders from other countries also refused to talk to him directly. Despite Pakistan practically begging for it, Biden didn't even talk to him on phone.

Putin invited him to Moscow just to show the world that a major Muslim country's Prime Minister was visiting Russia the day Russia attacked Ukraine.

So, Khan was either ignored by world leaders or used by them for their own propaganda purposes.
