Rajnath Singh also commented on Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed's 'house-arrest' in Islamabad stating it an eyewash.
New Delhi, February 3: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday made some strong statements against Pakistan saying that India cannot rule out more surgical strikes in Pakistan-controlled territory if terrorists from the neighbouring country target India. The statement was made by Rajnath Singh in an interview with Network18 Group.
“Pakistan is our neighbour. If it changes for good, we may not need such a step again. But if terror organisations or others target India, we can’t guarantee that surgical strike will not be repeated,” Singh was quoted by Network18 in the hour-long exclusive interview.
Rajnath Singh who stand on the second position in the Narendra Modi-led BJP government also commented on Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed’s arrest in Islamabad. Singh said Saeed’s arrest is an eyewash and if Islamabad is really serious about tackling with the terror outfits, it should pursue legal options and must put him behind the bars with applying appropriate charges.
While talking about fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, who is reportedly hiding in Pakistan, Singh said, “I am confident that we will succeed in getting him back. It is just a matter of time”. Singh took a hard-line towards Pakistan but he was more measured when it came to China. Rajnath Singh refused to answer on China’s repeatedly blocking -Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar – as a terrorist at the United Nations. Singh said, “Maybe China did not support us because of their own internal deliberations. But I am hopeful they will support us in the future”.
It was quite interesting to see that Home Minister Rajnath Singh also refused to criticise the US decision to put a ban on Muslims travelling from seven Islamic countries, a decision which has triggered a widespread criticism for US President Donald Trump. Singh said Donald Trump must have taken such decision after “assessing local; terror situation”.
Talking about his home state Uttar Pradesh that is holding assembly elections in two weeks’ time, Singh expressed faith that BJP will win over 250 of the 403 seats. He said the BSP and the SP-Congress alliance should decide who is the main opposition to BJP, and observed who the real opposition would vary from region to region. Singh, a former CM of the state, ruled himself out of the race to become the UP chief minister. “I am already the home minister, it would be an injustice if others are not given a chance,” he said, noting that going ahead with the poll campaign without declaring a CM candidate would not affect his party’s chances.
