The China issues are well on their way to being resolved, as is that border is relatively peaceful- no one has died there for decades and mutual trade between the two giants will be touching $100BN in the not too distant future. There's no need to come along and play the "hard man", use your reason and logic.


Pakistan is a different story entirely, here India does need to be strong and project a sense of power, the monthly ceasefire violations and constant infiltration of terrorists from the Pakistani side need to stop. However there is a limit to how far you can address this short of launching an all out war as the safe havens all lay in Pakistani territory and the most disturbing issue is the mindset that has ebbed into Pakistani society. No Modi or anyone can do anything about this. Giving local Army commanders more authority to conduct limited punitive action is about as much as one could expect.

Pursuing a more aggressive national security policy is a must, across the board get things working better, get the military what it wants, give the int agencies what they need- not so much a budgetary thing but authority to work more aggressively and shore up India's defences at home the best that can be done.


To be fair under the Congress the situation on the LoC and in JK has improved many fold but this is mainly due to the IA's work but then the GoI let them have the autonomy they needed to get things done.
