Interior Minister Eli Yishai declared this week that the Israel Defense Forces failed in the Second Lebanon War because soldiers did not pray or "raise their eyes to God", Channel 10 reported on Tuesday.

At a celebration earlier this week, Yishai took to the podium and compared the 2006 Second Lebanon War to the successes of the 1967 Six Day War, when "all Arab states fought against Israel."

"There were at least one hundred soldiers against every Jewish soldier, if not thousands," Yishai said, "against every tank, hundreds of tanks; against every plane, hundreds of plane."

The interior minister claimed that the IDF achieved more in 1967 because the soldiers put their faith in God, whereas during the Second Lebanon War, the IDF soldiers invested trust only in their own abilities.

"In the Six Day War, every Jew, and every Jew that went to battle, raised their eyes to the creator," the Interior Minister said. But in the Second Lebanon War, Yishai said, the IDF relied only on its own strength.

"This is a great lesson," Yishai said. "When all Arab states are against the Jewish people, what will save the Jewish people is study of the Torah."

Yishai described the Six Day War as "miracles and wonders."

"Then we were the weakest army in the Middle East. We had no chance of winning. Suddenly, everyone flees, and the nation of Israel wins," he added.

At the time of the Second Lebanon War, however, Yishai said, "We were the strongest army in the Middle East."

Have you ever wondered if not hiding behind women, civilians and kids and OUT OF UNIFORM - why quote Islamic republic of what have you, are so bad at war. In less than 24 hrs we had so many strip off uniform, run off or wave white flags and simply surrender to us in Iraq.

Jewish military is surrounded by so many countries that have all these oil riches and yet Israelis are more intelligent, smarter and better off than these others. All I hear from citizens of these countries that despise isreal is big talk - but they nor their people or their respective countries can't touch that little country that is smaller than the size of New York. Jew this , Zion this, blah blah . You can't touch them . Is anything I have said not brutally honest?

Yet they failed and were kicked out a of South Lebanon and a stronger Hezbollah is still here. your going off topic if you can't provide anything then leave otherwise you have been reported for off topic and derailing the thread.

He did not say that and he already apologized if someone took him in this way.

Interior Minister Eli Yishai apologized on Wednesday for what he called a “false headline” about his saying that the negative results of the Second Lebanon War were because IDF soldiers are less religiously observant than in the past.

Speaking in the Knesset, Yishai said that the reports “have no connection to what was said.”

He expressed regret that bereaved families were hurt or offended because of the reports, even if they were inaccurate.

“The most important thing is that the bereaved families were hurt, so I apologize for the insult, for the words that were said, even if they were distorted and twisted,” Yishai said in the plenum.

He forgot America's help.
America did not help Israel in 1967 war.

IDF failed for only two reasons,

1. No clear political objectives.
2. No clear military objectives.

Both very important to bring any conflict to an end to resolve issues.

I think they underestimated Hezbollah as well they thought of it as another Hamas or other groups, Hez are very Underrated Fighters however they are pretty good.

No. There was no underestimation. And neither are the Hezzies that good. How do you target "combatants" who use civilians as shields, put up their bases in civilian areas and masquerade as macho men standing up to the military might of a powerful country?

Like I said earlier, in any conflict, you need two solid objectives - political and military - in that particular order. Both were absent during the conflict. Period. Contrast that with the Kargil win for India.
