In here they mention that Turkey wanted 70% domestic production and that SNC stated that that would be unrealistic by 2023, but this article is from june 17, 2015. The news about the orders from Chamber of commerce Istanbul and Sentinel Aerospace group from Singapore, is from July 2016.

In this article also from July 2016, it says they have chosen engines and avionics suite for the plane:
"TRJet has chosen Rockwell Collins’ Pro Line Fusion for the jet’s avionics suite, and Pratt & Whitney Canada’s (P&WC’s) PW127 as the turboprop’s engine...."

I personally think (and hope) it's still alive.
One of my friends used to work for the project. But now he doesn't. A contract was supposed to be signed last august and they had been waiting for it for a long time. But it never was signed. That is all i know.
 
IDEF 2017: Nurol unveils modular 4x4

The latest Turkish company to develop a new armoured vehicle is Nurol Makina.

It has put on display its NMS 4x4 vehicle at IDEF 2017 for the first time and to be fair it looks like they have done a good job, it certainly looks the part.

Nurol is better known for its civil security vehicles decorated in the usual black and it is different from the company's Ilgaz and Ejder vehicles parked next door. Nurol did produce a 6x6 Ejder APC ten years ago that secured sales to Georgia.

But even though the NMS is built to a more military spec and is in a desert beige colour, a company spokesperson told Shephard the NMS 4x4 is designed for both civil and military sectors, for 'all markets everywhere' by his account.

Company information states that it is designed for combat areas 'against the most aggressive and asymmetric threats' and can do missions ranging from troop transport to carrying weapon systems.

Despite the mean look of the vehicle it may be hard to break into an established 4x4 market. However, the spokesperson insisted that the NMS vehicle's attributes offered more than its rivals.

According to him it is a lightweight vehicle with a much higher payload of 4t. Company literature states the vehicle gross weight is 10t. He also said that the ballistic and mine protection is to level three using composite armour to keep the overall vehicle weight down.

Naturally lower weight makes it more mobile, especially over rough terrain. Other mobility features include a 300hp engine, six speed automatic transmission, front and rear fully independent suspension, 4x4 continuous drive and a low centre of gravity that gives better road grip. It also has a dual circuit, disc on every wheel with ABS brakes. It can reach a top speed of 140km/h, has a range of 700km and a 6m turning circle.

One particular feature the spokesperson highlighted was the higher approach and departure angles of 54° and 62° when traversing obstacles, which he said was high for this type of vehicle.

NMS 4x4 is modular and any subsystems required by a customer can be fitted to the vehicle, such as CBRN systems, fire suppression, etc. It is available in three main configurations: scout, air defence (with 40mm AGL or air defence missiles fitted) and with an open rear section.

There is space for nine people including the crew. It is 4.9m-long and 2.4m-wide with a height of 2.1m not including a roof-mounted 7.62mm or .50 cal remote weapon station. The spokesperson said that the vehicle has 360° camera coverage and the ballistic glass protection can be increased to the same as the armour with the addition of laminate layers.

The vehicle on display at IDEF 2017 was the scout variant fitted with a Turkish RWS that the spokesperson was not allowed to name. It was also equipped with a Figes mast mounted EO/IR system and a Golight light system.

The vehicle certainly seems well designed for every environment and has a nice look about it, so time to see if it can secure some sales.

Kaplan MT medium weight tank ready for testing

Turkey’s FNSS Savunma Sistemleri has released details of a new Kaplan (Tiger) MT Modern Medium Weight Tank.

FNSS and Indonesia’s PT Pindad unveiled the jointly developed medium weight tank, Kaplan MT, during the 13th International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF) in Istanbul. The Kaplan MT brings a new breath to the battlefield with its accurate direct fire capability, a wide selection of ammunition ranging from close fire support to anti-tank ammunition, and superior tactical and strategic mobility.

The vehicle’s new generation engine, coupled with a fully automatic electronic controlled transmission, results in of 20 hp/ton ratio; depending on the configurable protection system.

KAPLAN MT owes its advanced mobility capability to it’s 6 wheeled anti-shock suspension system, built on torsion bars with double pinned tracks twhich provides optimum performance on both urban infrastructure and cross country. The vehicle is fully operable in a broad range of altitude and humidity, and tempratures. (-18°C/+55°C)

The vehicle’s power pack is equipped with capacity cooling pack and fuel tanks. The cooling pack is cooled by an intelligent software driven hydraulic fan for optimum torque extraction and fuel economy, and two separate fuel tanks provide a minimum operating range of 450km. An auxiliary power unit enables turret operation when vehicle engine is not running by charging battery system. Advanced battery monitoring system is also equipped for optimum power management and silent watch capabilities.

Leonardo offers new M-346 jet trainer aircraft for Azerbaijani Air Force

Leonardo has showcased the M-346 jet trainer aircraft to the Azerbaijani authorities.

A presentation of new generation M-346 jet trainer aircraft, manufactured by Italy’s Leonardo Aircraft company, was held at an air base of Azerbaijan’s Air Force on May 10, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, that was reported by azeridefence.com.

The leadership of the Ministry of Defence inspected the aircraft, then a comprehensive briefing was given on its technical data, operation and other capabilities.

The M-346 Master is an advanced and lead-in fifth-generation fighter trainer. The M-346 provides combat pilot training for front line fighters with high angle-of-attack capability. The aerodynamic design of the M-346 uses vortex lift to provide manoeuvrability and controllability at very high angle-of-attack using a fly-by-wire control system.

The M-346 can climb at the rate of 127m/s. The maximum and cruise speed of the aircraft are 1,092km/h and 1,059km/h respectively. Its stall speed is 166km/h. The range and service ceiling of the M-346 are 2,590km and 13,700m respectively. Its take-off run is 320m, while the landing run is 470m. The aircraft weighs around 4,610kg and its maximum take-off weight is 9,000kg.

BEU Project aims to procure the most suitable air platform to train the pilot candidates in the combat squadrons of the Turkish Air Force. Currently, T-41 and SF 260 Aircraft are in Turkish Air Force inventory and they are used by student/graduate pilots for primary training.



After the tender process, upon the result of the evaluations, the Defence Industry Executive Committee selected the contractor for the Primary Trainer Aircraft (BEU) Program and has authorized SSM to launch contract negotiations with PAC in August 2016.



Contract negotiations are being finalized and the contract signature ceremony was held in IDEF 2017.



Within the context of this program, T-41 and SF 260 Aircrafts, which are used for primary training in Turkish Air Force inventory, will be replaced with 52 SMK Primary Trainer Aircraft.



SMK’s general characteristics are:



• A propeller driven single-engine aircraft

• Center-mounted (cyclic) stick

• Identifying Friend or Foe (IFF)-Transponder, Global Positioning System (GPS) and navigation easiness

• UHF/VHF radio system

• Basic aerobatic maneuvers can be performed

• Take-off and landing distances, stall and approach speeds are low, side-wind speeds are high

• The pilots have good all-round view



Procurement of SMK aircraft will provide the opportunity to make the flight training in a more efficient and effective way.



With this project, Turkey will be the first NATO country to operate SMK in its Airforce’s inventory. Considering the heritage of good relationships between two countries, this project will foster this relationship and take it to the further in the future.

Turkey and UK G to G Signature Ceremony
Within the scope of the Turkish Fighter Development (TF-X) Program Phase-I Stage-I (Preliminary Design) contract dated 05.08.2016, signed between Undersecretariat for Defence Industries and TAI, Turkey and the United Kingdom are both committed to strengthening their respective defence capabilities through the sharing of technology and expertise in support of the Turkish TF-X Programme. In this manner, both governments have decided to establish governmental support and assurances as they have exchanged Letters from both Defense Ministers proving the commitments and dedication of both parties.



Within the scope of this Collaboration, a ceremonial meeting of signed letters held on 10 May 2017 at IDEF exhibition.

Turkey’s military showed interest in PARS 6×6 iZCi as a platform for new chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) reconnaissance vehicle.

The new PARS 6×6 iZCi (Scout) vehicle was displayed at the IDEF 2017 for the first time. The PARS 6×6 Scout vehicle is 6.5m-long with a width of 3m and height under 2.5m. It has a 22-30hp/ton power-to-weight ratio using a diesel engine and automatic transmission that offers a maximum road speed of 100km/h and a range of 600km.

The PARS 6X6 SCOUT has a power-to-weight ratio of 25-30 Hp/ton, driven by a diesel engine. The PARS 6X6 SCOUT Powerpack consists of a diesel engine, coupled with a fully automatic transmission which generates a maximum road speed of up to 100 km/h and is capable of maneuvering on 60% vertical and 30% horizontal gradients, climbing 60 cm-high obstacles and crossing 120 cm-wide trenches. Thanks to the engine layout and favored balanced design, the vehicle’s axle loads are almost equal.

This design approach provides the vehicle with the ability to move comfortably even over loose and soft terrain, while also providing increased road-holding at high speeds and short braking distances. The vehicle has 6X6 and 6X4 driving characteristics, and all of its axles can be locked when necessary. The central tire inflation system allows the driver to adjust tire pressures to suit different terrains, and the independent height-adjustable hydro-pneumatic suspension system provides the best road holding for different road conditions.

PARS 6X6 SCOUT is fully amphibious. Two water jets mounted on either side of the hull allow for a speed of up to 8km/h in the water.

The two-man cab at the front of the vehicle is protected by transparent armor (ballistic glass), and provides a 230° horizontal field of vision, high driving safety, situational awareness and comfort.

The vehicle’s large transparent armor (ballistic glass), and its front and rear day and night cameras give the driver and commander a wide field of vision. Inside the vehicle, its door covers, personnel seats, weapon holders and interior lighting elements are designed to provide comfort to the vehicle personnel.

The PARS 6X6 SCOUT has a range of over 600 km, and its fuel tanks are incorporated with special protective measures against explosion and puncture. The vehicle is fitted with run-flat tires and has a self-recovery winch.

The PARS 6X6 SCOUT hull can be brought to the level of protection required by the user thanks to its modular designed armor system. The hull form, underbelly structure, base plates and specially developed mine-resistant seats are designed to protect personnel against high-level mine threats.

The modular connection of the vehicle subsystems to its mine-resistant hull ensures ease of maintenance and replacement, and it is this ease of maintenance, replacement of moving parts and power transmission systems in particular that makes it superior to its counterparts.

According to a company spokesperson that one of the key difference between this vehicle and the earlier Pars 6×6 is that the two-man cab at the front of the vehicle is protected by ballistic glass and offers a wider 230° field of vision.

Furthermore, he added that it has a plain flat surface that allows for easy upgrades to the armour capability because the curves on the chassis in the similar CBRN vehicle mean that a higher level of armour cannot be added.

TUSAS-BAE Signature Ceremony

Within the scope of the Turkish Fighter Development (TF-X) Program Phase-I Stage-I (Preliminary Design) contract dated 05.08.2016, signed between Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM) and Turkish Aircraft Industries Corporation (TUSAS), the Prime Contractor is planned to carry out the design activities with a Foreign Collaboration Company (FCC) during the Program.



In this context, BAE has been determined as the company for “Pre-Contract Study” (PCS) phase, in which engine selection, concept design review and infrastructure issues has been studied cooperatively by TAI and BAE along with the contract negotiations.



Within this framework, Heads of Agreement between TUSAS and BAE is signed on January 28 2017 and Collaboration Agreement will be planned to complete as soon as possible.
