IAF Officer Arrested In Coimbatore Over Alleged Sexual Assault Complaint

The police have said the question of jurisdiction is being discussed (Representational)

Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu:
A 26-year-old Flight Lieutenant in the Indian Air Force has been arrested by police in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore after a 27-year-old female officer complained of sexual assault.
She said she had been forced to go to the police because she was not satisfied with action taken by the IAF after her original complaint about two weeks ago.
The woman, who had travelled to the Air Force College for training, said the assault took place inside her room at the Air Force Administrative College in Coimbatore's Redfields.
According to her statement she injured herself while playing a sport. She then took some medication before going to sleep in her room. She woke up later that to find she had been sexually assaulted.
Police said they had acted only after having been told the woman officer was unhappy with the Air Force's handling of her complaint.
An all-women team from the city's Gandhipuram Police Station carried out the initial investigation.
The arrested officer, who is a native of Chhattisgarh, has been remanded to the Udumalapet Jail.
He had surrendered to the district judge.
However, a lawyer representing the accused has underlined police do not have jurisdiction in matters relating to armed forces personnel.

Such cases can only be heard by a defense court, the lawyer said.

Being older, i assume she was his senior. Man!!!! This guy is anything but a soldier. You simply dont mess with your senior in uniform.

So the IAF P was so abhorrent that the civilian police decided to arrest the culprit themselves?

Man I feel bad for Indian women, even being in the military can’t protect them from animals.
Local police does not have jurisdiction on incident occurred on federal territory like military bases. There has to be more to story if MPs decided not to arrest him rightaway.

This is shameful for IAF. I hope there is a review to see why justice was denied to this lady officer within IAF's standard procedure to investigate such complaints.

Her story is shaky to start with. Like most rape allegations in one night stand scenario.

Stop supporting rape, looking at the rampant rape culture in India it seems most likely that she was raped.
Luckily legal system doesn’t work like this. Every case is investigated on it’s merits not cultural perceptions.

Your comment signifies mob mentality nothing else. Just based on allegations, You don’t and couldn’t put a serving Lt in jail, tainting his carrier and image for life. Report says, she woke up to found out she was raped. Which mean she didn’t even witness the accused in the act or in room.

I bet Airforce federal investigators most probably investigated it and didn’t find sufficient evidence to charge the guy at this time.

OK a DNA test should provide the evidence.

A---**** his career Any smart officer would not put himself in a stupid situation
B--there might be other evidence that hasn't been seen You can idenitfy people in these factors
C--Airforce investigators in India and even Pakistan will look after their service first before the law

D--I hate rape apologists What excuse do you have for the Indians who raped that 15 year old girl?
