On a formal request from the Bangladesh Air Force and reviewing the historic ties, the IAF today handed over one Dakota aircraft from the IAF museum to the Bangladesh Air Force. The aircraft was gifted by Air Marshal SS Soman, Air Officer Commanding in Chief Western Air Command to Air Marshal Muhammad Enamul Bari, Chief of Bangladesh Air Force in a befitting ceremony at Air Force Station Palam.

The Dakota aircraft has played a sterling role in the history of the Indian Air Force. Much nostalgia can be associated with the aircraft as it was one of the pioneers of the transport fleet of the Indian Air Force. The aircraft played a crucial role in the 1947-48 war and a pivotal role in liberation of Bangladesh and formation of Bangladesh Air Force. It was the first transport aircraft that landed at heights of 11500 ft in Leh by then Wg Cdr Mehar Singh. The aircraft was used for transporting troops in Srinagar during 1947-48 war and also for the famous Tangail drop, (the biggest and most ambitious air drop operation since World War II).

. . . . .
Indian govt. is running a useless and fruitless campaign to show that India is a friend of Bangladesh, while killing Bangladeshis in our land and sucking Bangladesh dry economically using its agents.

What will be the use of it?

A museum piece that keeps peoples mind on 1971. The aircraft is another tool of political branding like naming everything with bongahabhondhu, every new project whether its a bridge, airport, etc needs to be used as a marketing/propaganda tool the AL needs the population to keep focusing back to 71, when it was the only party and india was its ally.

Similar to naming stadiums nehru, by congress in india or putting up massive posters that glorify a leader in communist nations and many arab dictatorships.

@ What balls we will do with this antique aircraft ? India is trying to show that she is our friend but the bitter truth is it is not ?
@ It may be an antique for Indian Air Force but not for us. Yes, it is true that we used this type of aircraft for our airforce but not particular this one.

@ What this Bangladeshi Brigadier is doing ? Where is Bangladeshi Airforce officer ? Oo ! I see he is seating at the centre, good ! good !.
