Waiting for confirmation however CDS seems to have not survived according to multiple journalists or at least that is the word amongst them. Then again it is Indian news so would treat it as unconfirmed.

Unlikely they would have seperate facilities for VIP in a aircraft the size of MI-17, but I could be wrong

Too many people jumping the gun on blame. No one is going to blame Pakistan or China for an incident in Tamil Nadu. Mi-17s are known to be unreliable machines given that most of them are so old. The 'VIP' tag is just for the interiors. They are not very different from rest of the junk.

Going by the visuals it's pretty hard to imagine anyone walking away from that.

Yes this looks like a bad crash where helicopter totally destroyed. I will be surprise if anyone makes it alive. Lets see.
Mi17 is very much prone to crashes. We had many Mi17 crashes too in the last decade or so. Few years back couple of European ambassadars had a deadly crash in GB.
