Intelligence report of the Indian Air force raises alarm over the build up of Chinese Air force fighters in Tibet. The report says that the number of sorties flown by the Chinese Air force is the highest for a calendar year till date and stands at more then 1200 .

Sortie rates of Chinese air force over last three years have been steadily rising and in 2014 their has been 1200 sorties compared to less then 500 sorties in 2013 indicating airfield is now fully operationalised for all weather and pilots are carrying out higher sorties to familiarize themselves to terrain and weather conditions.

China has deployed Su-27 fighters at Gonkar airfield which is an all-weather airfield located at an altitude of 16,000 feet near the Tibetan capital Lhasa. Airfield over the years has been upgraded to operate Aircraft’s for all seasons and also has seen construction of underground hangars for aircraft protection . Aircraft’s deployed in this region can take out targets in India from Ladakh to Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.

Indian Air Force in response has stationed Su-30MKI fighters in Chabua and Tezpur in Assam which Chinese fears can take out Qinghai-Tibet Railway which runs between Xining in western China’s Qinghai province and Lhasa in Tibet which is crucial to provide supplies to their troops in case of conflict .

In a conflict the whole northern India industry will be precision bombed into history within the first week.

why intelligence had to report the buildup of Chinese army? is Indian army it self on holidays?

In a conflict the iaf will take out the runways at the only significant all weather base the Chinese have in Tibet, putting their air force at a huge disadvantage. Stage 2 would be the elimination of their rail and road links. Stage 3 would be the Chinese forces trying to survive without fuel, supplies and ammo.

Forget about bombing north India - the question is how do the Chinese overcome the logistical difficulties of going through the Tibet plateau. There is a good reason why, of all the invaders coming in, throughout india's history, none came through Tibet.

Any PLAAF fighters taking off from high altitude Tibet airfields near India will be at a distinct disadvantage against IAF fighters taking off from India's NE airbases that are all located at lower altitudes. Meaning already PLAAF fighters will have to take to the skies with a limited weapons/fuel load due to the thinner air at high altitudes- the IAF's fighters will have no such issues taking off from their lower altitude bases. Additionally PLAAF fighters deployed in this region don't have OBOGS (IAF fighters do) meaning not only are they facing a weight penalty but their time on station is severely limited by the capacity of onboard liquid oxygen tanks.

There are set to be several MKI SQDs deployed in India's NE and by 2020 Rafales, the IAF has the PLAAF well covered. Thus I'd have to agree with @Horus the timing of this this report is no coincidence and follows the Parliamentary board's findings last week, the Indian Mil is pushing for a larger budget in the upcoming budget (to be announced in a few months) and the MoD has explicitly stated this.

I too agree with this. And there is one more thing which caught my eye was that we are able to penetrate Himalayan hights to scan Chinese interior air space from very long ranges including the no of sorties made by their jets only(excluding helo flights and UAVs). That's some good capability there.

LOL at Indians deluding themselves. First they claimed it's impossible for China to build airbases on Tibet high altitude. After we build, then they claim we cannot fly from these airbases ;)

India hardly even has an airforce any more. They all crashed immediately after take off!

India is so backward they think Venus and Mars are Chinese UAV's

The biggest humiliation for Modi yet was when they challenged PLA at Chumar in 2014 and found themselves outnumbered and outgunned against PLA helicopter ready to rain death on Indian jawans with our gattling guns! :sniper:

Had the previous govt not fooked up the situation we wouldn't have been in this mess

We need more air force bases in the 5 border states to the east and northeast. Whether this is to get more cash or not, we focus too much on Pakistan aerially which are right now in their own chaos and don't have anything to attack except their 'non' state actors. Let the ground intelligence deal with them.

But there has been only steps taken in the second half of 2014, to make sure that there is sufficient military backup in the eastern sector. For 11 years, there was no defence cover in the eastern sector. I shudder to think about how vulnerable we were in that Lost Decade.

Ultimately Tibet, Xinjiang, Hong kong, all will become independependent countries just like Taiwan, and Mongolia will take control of the rest of China, and the world will be at peace. This will happen as a fallout of the impending economic crisis and CCP losing its credibility and clout over the oppressed minorities, poor people, and freedom loving liberals of China. :P

Where do you live @BuddhaPalm ? Let me check if you are also getting freedom. :D

Come on. First learn to make milk powder, then come back and talk. Stupid comments will attract stupid responses. Is that what you want?

Well, they were simply carrying in the noble tradition of Congress laid down in 1962, when apparently sending out our soldiers outnumbered, unprepared and without proper mountain equipment was not enough, so chacha nehru decided to hold back the one massive advantage India still had - air support.

The risk today is a preemptive strike by china, which is why the iaf is so desperately creating multiple airbases, dispersing fighters, and adding SAM cover.

Besides, one great advantage India has is internal lines of communication. While we keep worrying about a 2-front war, we also have the ability to bring over additional troops, especially armour, from the western front. No wonder the Chinese were sh****no their pants at the thought of India finally and belatedly upgrading the border roads infrastructure.
