IA to induct Excalibur as interim assault rifle

India has a policy and philosophy that tries to keep away arms from the hands of private players.

Private players will be tempted to sell their arms to the local population and turn India into a violent nation like the US.

It would be better if we can make the Ordinance factory into a public limited company and introduce a few more stakeholders to bring in more professionalism and Quality control.
its the most idiotic reason ever heard ... how pvt manufacturing companies will start selling guns to public without license issued by govt ?

1. By changing laws
2. By illegally routing guns
3. By encouraging private players to manufacture guns in small scale industries like in pakistan.

The only idiot is those who cannot see where that path leads.

1, by changing LAW : which law ? license law ? in order to purchase a gun legally every citizen needs license issued by govt.
2. By illegally routing guns : what does it mean? if you have money u can buy any gun in india illegally ! how the entry of pvt players in gun manufacturing will change this?
3. You mean illegal gun factories ? there are thousands of them in every state.

1. ANY law. License law. Removal of license law. Law making it easier to get license.
2. Making it easier for getting high quality illegal guns.
3. An ecosystem will only serve to make these illegal factories churn out higher quality guns.

1 failure per 24,000 rounds. 1 tank for 50 degrees to -20 Celsius. 1 helicopter with a flight ceiling above the Himalayas at full load, 1 plane that can take off and land on said mountains. Indian military has standards that are impossible to meet.

as I said.. this is almost star wars genre. Any one building Light Sabres yet?

Anti mine boot, you can see it at the beginning. 0:09

LAWL... they trying to make a tank out of the boot? average troop speed - 2 MPH and endurance of not more than 2 hours. whats the weight on that thing? the sole is about 10 inches on that thing

here's US ar 670 boot regulations:

  1. (a) As an option, Soldiers may wear commercial boots of a design similar to that of the Army combat boot (tan), as authorized by the commander. The boots must be between 8 to 10 inches in height and made of tan flesh-side out cattlehide leather, with a plain toe and a soling system matching the color of the tan upper materials. Rubber and polyether polyurethane are the only outsole materials that are authorized. The soling materials will not exceed 2 inches in height, when measured from the bottom of the outsole, and will not extend up the back of the heel or boot or over the top of the toe. The exterior of the boot upper will not contain mesh but will be constructed of either all leather or a combination of leather and nonmesh fabric. Soldiers may wear optional boots in lieu of the Army combat boot (tan), as authorized by the commander; however, they do not replace issue boots as a mandatory possession item.

Yes but these Sabres should be multi-length and have the ability to change midcombat along with underwater capability.

How powerful are gun lobbies in Indian society? Are any members of the Indian government stakeholders in the private arms industry?

The MCIWS is actually a very good looking rifle which is also world class as I have seen it personally but I'm not sure about it's performance. The IA should test it extensively and recommend necessary changes and the production should be handed to private players like TATAs/Kalyani Group/Reliance Defence/Bharat Forge (TATA would be my choice) as they induct high quality standards with minimal tolerances and use the most advanced manufacturing technologies with high precision and accuracy which would be a class apart and the production rate can also be improved while implementing strict export control laws and other regulations to make sure these rifles don't end up with civilians. Since PA is likely to select SCAR or Beretta ARX, it is better for IA to go with indigenous rifles (to save foreign exchange) but those manufactured by private entities for higher quality at the earliest possible.

We don't have private arms industry. All are govt. owned.
