Pakistan delivers first consignment of wheat to Afghanistan

Pakistan has recently delivered to Afghanistan first consignment of 40,000 tonnes of wheat it promised as gift earlier this year.

The aid was promised in April during the visit of the then Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to Kabul.

The first consignment reached Afghanistan as Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi visited Kabul on Saturday in first visit by a Pakistani minister to Kabul after Imran Khan took office as Pakistani prime minister.

During the visit, Qureshi met with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah and his Afghan counterpart Salahuddin Rabbani, discussing security, peace and counter-terrorism.

In meeting with Rabbani, the sides exchanged views on the trilateral meeting among Afghanistan, Pakistan and China, and on a conference involving Islamic clerics of Afghanistan and Pakistan. Rabbani once again asked Pakistan to transfer the murderer of the Afghan Diplomat Muhammad Zaki Abdo who was killed in Karachi, Pakistan last year, according to a statement issued by the Afghan foreign ministry.

Meanwhile, Pakistani media reported that Qureshi offered to train Afghan police and other law enforcement agencies at Pakistani institutions.

He also said that Pakistan would fast-track standardization and automation of custom procedures as well as upgrade of infrastructure at crossing points between the two countries.
