I Am Buying A Business & Have An Issue:---

@MastanKhan
I will suggest to play some recitation on your office or on your phone through headphones and politely ask them to lower volume of their religious hymns, or listen through headphones as you can't concentrate on recitation. After sometime talk to them to suggest listening to religious stuff in free time and only on headphones so no one gets disturbed, it is a sensitive matter after all, for you as well .

Hi,

I am in the process of buying a business---. Most of the existing employees are sikhs---. I do not have any intention of changing the setup unless there is a problem---I believe that if your are able and capable---you have a job.

Before the door is open to public for the day---the employees are prepping and getting stuff ready---they have religious sikh hymns being played on the sound system---.

Me being a muslim---what would you people's suggestion be---how to approach this issue---? Should I leave it as it is---or what?

@GURU DUTT @KRAIT @Irfan Baloch @Oscar @Solomon2 etc etc etc

My suggestion is that do not bring Shikhs and Muslim in business. They are just your employees and treat them well. They will be loyal to you.

They are free to observe their religious things further they are praying for you and your business also.

Satan worship! NO
Sikhs are monotheists and believe in one God, they don't worship Satan.

Brother Islam give us teaching to respect others. My suggestion is that give them proper place to perform their religious activities, as far as religious hymns is concerned they can perform that but ask them politely that if they agree not to play on sound system and if they are not agree for that then change your timing so that they will not disturb because of you and as per Islam it is not permit to be part of any other religious activity. May Allah help us all. I will check with few of my friend also and give you proper answer further via mail brother.

the guys working there are also earning on theirn own effort. isnt it their right who they worship? as long as it doesnt interefere with the business or physically hurt someone?

@MastanKhan have you considered giving a specific time as their prayer time and in return they could assure the business will not be affected by their religious duties?

a few months back a bunch of muslims asked for "prayer time" at an establishment. the establishment promptly said - rules are same for everyone - do it in your break time and breaktime is same for all employees. what they do in their break time is no ones business (as long as it doesnt affect anyone or the work place).

you are in a similar situation here. But being a small business (I am guessing), you have the authority to frame the rules.
Those Muslims were fired.
All 200 of em;

And Islamic prayers have timings..and hardly takes 5-10 mins.

Neither were those Muslims blaring evangelical choruses or hyms in their office.

.
Our workforce is pretty diverse so background noise is kept to normal music radio which everyone can understand or relate to.

We allow our workers to pray etc if they want but this is only allowed around their breaks. We have a quiet room allocated for them to do this.

If your workforce became more diverse and people started objecting to it then I suppose you can take the issue up with them.

Until then I would let it run and let them know unless visitors/customers/workers were being affected there's no issue.

Man, religion is irrelevant..... As long as good work ethic....
Keep the hymns going. Shows you are a diverse employer!!!!

That thing depends on the target market, if there demography doesn't make them disturb by some sort of religious touchy environment then its ok. But I have experience that when you are dealing with multi cultural or religious society these issues often get sensitive and come up with bad impression. And customers perceive your business " for specific people".

.
Hi,

Thank you all for your indulgence---.

Let me give you guys some more input---.

These are blue collar labor---I am going to be dependent on their goodwill and work ethics to succeed---the hymns are only played in the morning before the customers come in---after that it is regular music.

My father had a friend who had similar issue, he went hard on employees and the result was the employees started hating him, talking behind his back and creating problems after which he ended up selling the business with a loss to his pocket.

My suggestion will be have excellent and friendly relations with employees so that they feel motivated. Always smile and appriciate their little little efforts which will make them pray for you, respect you and take ownership in their work. Just my 2 cents.

.
congrats mastan...
I would go with the majority and say leave it as it is but as soon as a new guy joins the team... talk to all of them and tell them to accommodate the new guy's faith(or lack of it).

Hi . In Islam for starting every work there are duas .
As narrated from prophet saw these are some duas recited before any work or business .

(Rabbana aatena fid-dunya hasanattan wa fill akherate hasanattan, wa qena adhaban-naar.

Messenger of Allah (saws) taught the believers to supplicate Allah thus: 'O Allah, make Your lawful bounties sufficient for me so as to save me from what is unlawful, and from Your Grace grant me sufficient abundance to make me free from the need of all, except You'."

Related by Tirmidhi.

(Allahumma akfena bi-halaaleka unn haramik, wa agnena min fadhlekaamman sewak.)

As for them doing worship in your place , then I've no any specific knowledge . According to sheikh saaleh;
The acts with friendship with non muslims that are forbidden include supporting them against Muslims, supporting them with words that justify their ways, and feeling proud of their ways. All of these are forms of the friendship with them that is forbidden and that leads to apostasy from Islam (Allaah forbid).

You're allowed to do business or benefit from their work but you should not engage or praise or feel proud of their worship . You should not even encourage them for this , don't get tempt by their worship or let their religion affect your household . This is all I can find on Internet . I could not find any thing related to worshipping In your place .
Actually I want to tell you , if I were you I too would've feel uncomfortable cause it's in my belief to start every business with the name of Allah cause it has barkat .
If you're feeling discomfort thenyou're the boss , you're the authority . You should politely tell them to not do this in your place.

power to them,
let those hymns be their war cries.. if they get the job done and run the place to your liking then let them carry on for the sake of a successful launch.

just have a staff meeting and suggest that this is kept under control and within reasonable limits (subjective matter) so as not to confuse the customers.

what kind of business is it?
