I Am Buying A Business & Have An Issue:---

. . . . .
Hi,

I am in the process of buying a business---. Most of the existing employees are sikhs---. I do not have any intention of changing the setup unless there is a problem---I believe that if your are able and capable---you have a job.

Before the door is open to public for the day---the employees are prepping and getting stuff ready---they have religious sikh hymns being played on the sound system---.

Me being a muslim---what would you people's suggestion be---how to approach this issue---? Should I leave it as it is---or what?

@GURU DUTT @KRAIT @Irfan Baloch @Oscar @Solomon2 etc etc etc
be punjabi all is well. Speak Punjabi and treat them like punjabi.... culture comes first before religion in sub-continent.... my personal experience ...speak punjabi with sardar ji ...he ll be your life time buddy. lolzzz.. be loud and learn some Chinyoti jokes ...

@Verve man i know u mean well, but u need to take a pause and check ur self, u might be giving way to a supressive and draconian mindset rather than an islamic one, i suggest u give the holy quran and sunnah a through read again even if u have read it in the past, just to refresh ur mind, religious freedom and rights of minorities are concepts first introduced into this world by islam, these concepts are the corner stone of islam, they are the reason why islam has spread so rapidly, any religious group must have complete freedom to express and practice their religion under muslim rule or if they are employes of a muslim...when u begin to supress something, deep down it means that thing is getting to u. we muslims are meant to be different than the psycho's who lynch people over cows, if we become the same thing how will we then claim that higher moral authority we muslims are so vocal about.

If you are OK with it then by all means. Might as allow performance of satanic rituals in the workplace as well.
Satan is so 1990s, cthulhu is my preference , ill put a picture of his up at the door.

Nah, it's not that evil looking. A squid with a bit of human transfusion and a dose of steroids is not that bad, DO IT.

Sir you are the boss and you live in the States.
Go for the neutral ground, play local music, apply all American theme. It's a business, not a cultural for festival after all. :yes4:

Bro, I am good. My writing style is heavily business influenced, unfortunately, so it comes across as too direct. Happens when one has to explain simple things and train people of all sorts.

I'm mostly calm, although my Mrs may disagree with that :D

Sikhs reject Idol worshipping and believe in monotheistic God

I don't see any issue with devotional singing as long as it make them work hard and has no negative impact on their work . I would not care about the religious beliefs of employee . We want freedom of offering Salah then we should give same freedom to non Muslims.

Ask them politely to keep it down and avoid it in the business hours.

Hi,

Thank you all for your indulgence---.

Let me give you guys some more input---.

These are blue collar labor---I am going to be dependent on their goodwill and work ethics to succeed---the hymns are only played in the morning before the customers come in---after that it is regular music.

As a Muslim individual I don't see any problem with them singing hymns ...... If it was me I would have asked them if I can perform a step or two on their music .......

As a business owner I would be watchful for anything that results in litigation, business loss of any kind, or disturbance in surroundings.

I don't know if the desis change when they land on foreign soil ........... but it has been proven tested and implemented ......... a simple pat on the shoulder with "yes you are the man" can make them do anything ..... that pat can also come in form of (acceptable) religious freedom at work place.

Edit: Congratulations on this new development ........ may it prosper and be successful, best wishes.

The shops owned by Sikhs most of the times run Gurbaani (Sikhi religious hymns) and this is so common. This seems to be a culture or practice deep rooted. Religious practices are touchy subjects and honestly telling you can make enemies by asking them to stop playing Gurbani. It's not alone Sikhs, there are many Muslims who pray while at work! I can see that some of the religious ones, they're using hand counter (Tasbeeh counter).

And...Sikhism seems to be very aggressive towards the followers especially men regarding religious practices be it turban, beard moustache etc. Something alien to most Hindus or Muslims. Tread carefully without offending them. It's no way justifiable to bring religion into offices (unless it isn't affecting others and does not harm productivity).
