As a country that came out of colonial rule, besides the trope of having Muslim population (which frankly sounds partisan if to say it mildly) our Govt's historically always had a soft corner for the cause Palestine.
This goes for everyone irrespective of religion mind you
However with the advent of Jihadi fervor/bombings/killings/Kashmir, that brought out religiosity there has been a turn around in at least people's minds. This clearly has been for the Hindus of course, given the disastrous handling of Kashmiri Pandit exodus by then Indian Govt and what happened around it. This however never got a outlet to vent its frustration, and got further exacerbated due to Congress's continued debacle morally and policy wise, because they wanted to be in power irrespective of the cost (as it happens in history). BJP is a result of this thirst for power of Congress, and they shall bear it along with country when it comes to the so called religious polarization. You reap what you sow, and without a outlet it will blow up whether you like it or not.
The leftist cabal had its own axe to grind it, which had nothing to do with doing good for minorities, despite its stated claim. This cabal occupied intelligentsia circle for so many decades, and never gave space to the right wingers as its called these days. A healthy democracy gives space to both sides, that maximizes spewing hatred verbally in debates and thus minimizes any such thing being put into action.
Why do you think, there is a yearning for BJP in masses besides the urge for a alternative to the corrupt Congress that ruled 55 or even more out of 75 years of India's existence as a country. This Leftist cabal aligned with communist vermin, to get choke hold on every space in India whether it be Politics or Intelligentsia or power circles etc.
Irrespective of our internal Politics, Indians will always be beholden to policies that have a deeper meaning. If you ask any Indian even if its Modi about Palestine, on a more philosophical view point everyone of us will wish them well. Palestinians (other than the crazy lot like Hamas or PIJ), deserve a respectable life and Independence.
However Indian Govt is no fool to jeopardize our overall interests, just to make someone feel happy. Kargil war has been a turning point in our history, where Israel covered our asses literally. When the so called West that now wants to team up to undermine China turned a blind eye, and we would have suffered a nasty result they helped us. Since then Israel has only helped us, to gain more vis a vis relation with US and technologically too on a bilateral level. Why the **** should we undermine our interests, for someone else?
In addition to all the above, do you expect a country that has seen Mumbai terror attacks on top of all the shit that went down since nineties to feel its ok if a terror attack happens? Yeah I know the other side of the argument about 71 and mukti bahini. However the generation that suffered in Kashmir, and then other bombings and such came after that. A entire generation grew up, seeing their country be attacked with impunity and the world stay silent. So the next generation isn't going to be kind is it? Think of what Pakistan feels (at least what I read here on PDF) about Afghans?
So when you see Modi and most of Indians support Israel in their current fight, don't expect most of them to study Israel and Palestine history, or even so called effects of them supporting Israel on the imaginary united Muslim world. That's emotion, and you can see how it is on the Gaza Israel conflict surely. Aside from emotion, it is also that part of diplomatic India that is securing its interests with Israel and West.
The part of India that supports two state solution, that speaks to Abbas and sends aid is the one that feels genuinely for those who suffer because of the leadership that sits outside Gaza. We know what the common folk suffer, cause our forefathers suffered under the vermin called British.
It is also called nuance and being independent. We don't give a flying ****, as to what someone else feels as to why we do this. This is India and this is how we feel, take it or take a hike. Got the balls send more Ghazi our way, like one of our generals said recently
