Hypersonic Brahmos Missile to be ready by 2017

No mate, Tomahawk has terrain hugging capabilities, no missile system can take it down.

Hey I wasnt insulting just asking
Terrain Hugging is actually inferior to actual stealth................
That is why despite having"terrain hugging" capabilities, Babur is classified to have only "near stealth"

Tomhawks can be detected when they come near and can be intercepted by QR SAMs . Even Brahmos although has terrain hugging capabilities , will be detected at some time or other . But its highly difficult to intercept as it moves at Mach 2.8 and is maneuverable where as Tomhawk is subsonic , can be intercepted by the current generation SAMs .

How is it a stealth missile?? There's nothing stealthy to it...

I wouldn't call it stealth y as it cruises 6 mach with huge smoke emission

Why you want it Stealth????

I read in some forum that TH can be intercepted by fighter planes.

I can argue to that, Brahmos doesn't have terrain hugging capabilities.

On top of that, Tomahawk flies treetop level around 7-8m atlest (I got this from Babur specs), any modern SAM doesn't have capabilities to shoot that low.

F-14 appeared also able to destroy a cruise missile by releasing a Phoenix against a target evolving/moving to 15 m of altitude at the speed of Mach 0,75 (the shooting was started at a distance of 40 km).

so the INS Kolkata and INS Chennai will be equipped with Brahmos 1 initially

If Brahmos is such an awesome weapon, how come Russia is not using it? No one seems to focus on this question but its the key question. The answer is the same reason that China is not using JF-17. Because the system is created only for export. And in defence industry, export goods are not up to par as compare to the domestic ones. So no matter how much of a wonder weapon Brahmos is, Russia has something better that they will never share with India until they acquire something else even better.

I think it is based on what type of strategy you have.
there are various options. I guess India chose brahmos was (imagining pakistan in view) they are both neighbours and launching missiles from one side to other would be quite efficient.
Navy: as pakistan has few stealth ships where India has them they have higher probability hit.
Airforce has it as they like to troll...

Can you name a better air launched cruise missile that the IAF could have aquired?

Since theday i came to pdf, I must have read tonnes of thread about Brahmos -2 and all of them stated it to be done by 2016.. why suddenly 2017 ? wtf ? Is it like LCA reloaded waiting to happen ? :D
LOL you actually believed the 2016? Just like you believe 2017 year?

don't compare JF-17s with Brahmos:

1. JF-17 were manufactured by China as a low cost option for PAF, thus PAF can buy in huge nos. without much to worry about cost.

2. Brahmos on the other hand is very costly missile ($2.73 million), this is one of the reason that Russians don't want to buy it, incidently it is "India Shining" not "Russia Shining".....

3. Do you think Indian armed forces specially Indian navy which has tested several weapon system & selected the best among them eg: Rafale, would have compromised on important missile systems if Brahmos was not a capable missile.

Even Russians did not buy Su-30 & mig-29ks in first place but after seeing there success in India they are desperate to buy them

"heere ki asli kimat sirf johri ko pata hoti hai dost"...........:)

They already use a russian version of missile called yakhont cruise missiles...
Another reason was , it had a soviet law , which prohibited , weapons of foreign origins to be ever deployed in Russia.. Thats y all the initial test of brahmos was done in india...
They have removed the law now, but yet they dont have manufacturing facilities to build advanced navigation and sensors there...
So they left it as such, agreeing to concentrate on Brahmos 2..
While china never uses even the meanest of jf 17 prototypes........
