BEIJING (Reuters) - China confirmed only eight new coronavirus infections in Hubei province, the first time the epicenter of the epidemic recorded a daily tally in single-digits, as tough containment measures dramatically slow the spread of the virus in mainland China.

The capital of Hubei, Wuhan, reported all eight new cases on Wednesday, the National Health Commission said on Thursday.

The domestic spread of the disease has slowed markedly in the past seven days, a result of weeks of strict measures imposed to control the movement of people and traffic, including the virtual lockdown of Wuhan, a city of 11 million people.

Outside of Hubei, mainland China had seven new cases, including six cases imported from abroad.

Of the six imported cases, Guangdong province accounted for three, while Gansu province and Henan province were responsible for two and one, respectively.

Overall, the 15 new confirmed cases in mainland China on Wednesday was a drop from 24 cases a day earlier.

That brings the total number of confirmed cases recorded in mainland China to 80,793. As of Tuesday, 62,793 people have recovered and been discharged from hospital, or nearly 80% of the overall infections.

The death toll in mainland China had reached 3,169 as of the end of Wednesday, up by 11 from the previous day. Hubei accounted for 10 of the new deaths, including seven in Wuhan.

If they can prevent the virus spreading till the summer hits(May-June), theres a good chance the virus might just die out on its own. Then they dont have to worry about it until next Winter.

Its very hot in VN now, (25-35oC) and we still got abt 40 nCov case due to opening the country for tourism and business ( some nCov patients came to VN from EU,UK,USA).

So, nCov will still deadly in CN even when the temperature is 35oC like VN.

Yes, hot weather obviously won't prevent all infections, but might prevent community transmission. Like if you were in Italy and you come back to Vietnam with the virus, you obviously won't magically be cured, but hot weather might lessen the chances of it being spread. In India we have like 60 cases(15 of them Italians), despite our bad hygeine/high population density etc and almost all these people had recently been outside India. I am pretty sure weather in India is playing a huge part keeping it from spreading like it did in Wuhan and in Italy. Apart from Northern Indian states, it is already summer in most parts of India

Good news, But the Chinese authorities need to permanently ban mass wet markets and wild life meat trade.. The famine days of the 1950's are long gone and there is no need for such markets and slaughtering of animals for meat other than livestock, If SARS didn't send a message COVID 19 certainly did about the dangers of consumption of wild life in large numbers

It's also a huge black mark on a nation striving to be the most developed in human capital in the next decade or so
