A complete ban on trade suits India just fine. Access to Central Asia is msuch a laughable proposition. That's a very small market and why would Indian establishment give access to its own market in exchange for that ?

Guys so the assumption is that relations will never improve. They might not esclate to a war but will always be high and low. Pakistan's Economic Progress should not Depend on Trading With India. It can Do Without!
Now Pakistan PM has decided not to import Cotton, medicines & other imports from India and ordered ministries to find ALTERNATIVES, Why Cant Pakistan do the Following:
1. Import Cotton from China, Brazil, Turkey, Uzbekistan & Turkemanistan as these are other Top 10 producers of cotton in world. Although they migh be a more expensive than India but more sustainable imports as they would be friendly.

2. Import Pharma Raw Materials from China and Other countries. Make Generic Cheap Medicines from it. Even India is importing 80% from there:

3. We can Import Sugar From Brazil and Thailand.

Cotton import from China might be a little problematic due to Xinjiang. Other options are quite good.

Clamping down properly on sugar mafia will lead to shift back to cotton agriculture.
It can be done in 2 years starting with one specialist hospital like Sh Khanum.
One excellent research institute needed.
All of the above are not difficult tasks. Cotton side is being worked on right now as Pakistan was once an exporter of raw cotton.
