Iranian backing to Armenia was result of propaganda campaign on the internet showing Iranian trucks entering Armenia with trade goods. They were declared as Arms supplies.
Iranians trained Azeris back in 90s and stationed an IRGC general to train them. However, the secular Azeris saw Iranian training as an Islamist threat so they began switching their side to US supplies and training which withdrew direct Iranian support in terms of training and Iranian IRGC personnel fighting Armenians. There are many graves of IRGC Quds Force operatives in Baku.
Regarding the modern support, Iranians recognize Karbakh as Azeri territory. However, Iranians are only providing diplomatic support to Azerbaijan as Azeris had strained their relation in past after hosting a whole permenant Mossad foreign Intelligence station along with an station chief in Baku.
However, I am still failing to understand that why Iranians still support the Azeri side. To me, I don't support both. Both Armenia and Azerbaijan are slave Christian states. Azeris are just trying hard to prove their loyalty to the cross culture while Armenians don't need to do that because of their religion already.
Iranians are common about their support to Azeris. Regarding the comments an seeing where people claim Iran supports Armenians, am surprised how Anti Israel lobby will begin loving Israel if it results in increment of Iranian hatred.
Iranian Embassador to Azerbaijan said in clear words: May 2015, the Ambassador of Iran to Azerbaijan announced that it doesn't recognize the self-proclaimed “Nagorno-Karabakh Republic”. He further stated that: “There is no country called Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, and the Islamic Republic of Iran does not recognize such “a country”. Of course, we don't recognize the “elections held there”.
Khameini's personal representative in Azerbaijan supports Azeri troops and declared Azerbaijan Armenia conflict as Jihad.
However, Azeris recently played a stupid move to send a drone inside Iran which was shot down. They're just too much confident on their Israeli and Western allies which they shouldn't be. Making more enemies while war is at your gates is retarded act.
The effort of improving relations between two was damaged with Donald Trump's rise to become President of the United States, Azerbaijan voiced its recognition to Israel's position in Jerusalem, and Azerbaijan's returning anti-Iranian rhetoric remarks, has a negative impact of Azerbaijan–Iran relations.

Regarding the forum, as I didn't reply to their comments on this thread except yours because everyone here is forming their own foreign policy of countries lol. So lads here make assumptions they see on social media more than making their own research. That's why there's that general assumption. Also, because of emotional nationalism of Pakistanis with Turkey and Azerbaijan calling it a cresent alliance on social media is generating a conclusion that the orthodox Persians Shias are jealous of this Islamic holy alliance. Idk how Mr Zaid Hamid is going to hide from his fans that Azeris are best friends of his Yahudi enemies which he keeps cursing 24/7 to sell his ISI logo collar buttons and badges.
