What's new

How many Indian-Americans took up arms and gave life for USA ?

This selective service registration applies only in case of a draft, that is all, and then only to citizens and permanent residents, not anyone else.

actually, working visa and family visa holder would still need to register for SS

Only people who are exempted is Student and Visitor visa holder, and all female visa holder.

.
Well, we have had a Pakistan-American soldier killed in Iraq. As regards the Indian-American's I have no clue.

"Virtually all male U.S. citizens, regardless of where they live, and male immigrants, whether documented or undocumented, residing in the United States, who are 18 through 25, are required to register with Selective Service. The law says men must register with Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday."

Citizens and Immigrant males, as far as I can understand the above and this:

Why should an Indian give the life for US?

I know plenty of Indians who only care about getting GCs and US citizenship because it's a nice insurance policy. They don't care about US but only themselves. In that case, you are right, why should any Indian give his life to US. It would be better if they just returned to India.

. .
I am sure if cabbies had to go for H1B, there would have been lots of Pakistanis on H1B quota.

"Lawful non-immigrants on current non-immigrant visas are NOT required to register."

lol, Yes, Non-Immigrant visa holder are not require to register, but you misunderstand the definition of non-immigrant visa.

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process.html

Immigrating to the United States is an important and complex decision. In this section, you will learn about who may immigrate to the United States, the different types of immigrant visas, the required forms, and the steps in the immigrant visa process. Because most immigrants receive visas in the family or employment based visa categories, they are a key focus of this section. To be eligible to apply for an immigrant visa, a foreign citizen must be sponsored by a U.S. citizen relative, U.S. lawful permanent resident, or a prospective employer, with a few exceptions, explained below. The sponsor begins the immigration process by filing a petition on the foreign citizen’s behalf with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

Basically, every visa that leads to Permanent Residence in the US are immigrant visa, which mean holder of Family Base, Employment Base, and Asylum Base visa are all immigrant visa.

Non-Immigrant Visa, on the other hand, is for person who are not US Citizens (Defined as Foreign Alien) to enter US with the purpose of temporary stays. A person must hold substantial ties to their home country in order to applies for a non-immigrant type visa.

In fact, the selection service actually define undocumented alien (with purpose to stay in the US but without any visa) must also register with Selective Service

Why should they go to army while they can afford the best of education and be a part of the ruling class?

Serving in the Military of the United States is not a right, it's a privilege.

People who served will understand the concept of getting involve in something big, and being a part of something, something you will know that people can sleep easy at night because of you.

That's why we do it even when the condition is bad, and didn't pay well. Because that is not what the folks in the armed force looking for. If you want a good job, go find a job in private sector.

Most people who are not born and bred in the US won't understand this. And the Military is not for everybody.

Please note that H1-B specifically, that started this thread, is a non-immigrant visa, for "specialty occupations in fields requiring highly specialized knowledge":

https://travel.state.gov/content/tr...nformation-resources/all-visa-categories.html

The employment based visas in the immigrant visa category are the E visas of various preferences, as well as other types, but not H1-B.
