USA has a mandatory requirement for its citizens that they be willing to take up arms for country. Its like inbuilt to their constitution. All males between 18-25 years must register for selective service.

By the bucket loads Indians have gone to America using the H1B visa channel and become US citizens but have they also signed up and done military service ?

There are about 5500+ documented US causalities in Iraq and Afghanistan combined , how many of these were Indian american ?

Well, we have had a Pakistan-American soldier killed in Iraq. As regards the Indian-American's I have no clue.

Remembering Our Patriots: Indian Americans In The U.S. Armed Forces

An excerpt from the above link;

There were 4, 112 Indian-Americans serving in the defense forces on that day. Of them 1,031 Indian-Americans in the U.S. Army, 764 in the Navy, 614 in the Marine Corps, and 190 in the Air Force were on “Active Duty.” Under the “Guard/Reserves” category, there were 294 in the Army National Guard, 727 in the Army Reserve, 205 in the Navy Reserve, 133 in the Marine Corps Reserve, 99 in the Air National Guard, and 55 in the Air Force Reserve.

P.S: I can understand your jealousy about H1B. But seriously that was totally unwarranted, since people on work visa are generally not eligible to be citizens, let alone be part of armed forces anywhere. :-):-):-)

Indians qualify for US green card and citizenship mostly because of their role in Academics and job positions, considering my case, I'm halfway through my PhD, and already sitting on 43 research citations, hopefully will publish 2 more journals by the end of next year. With 60-70 citations, I can easily qualify for US green card under EB-1 category.

You don't need citations for EB-1A. Someone is telling you lies.

The SS is only for a draft, IIRC. Vietnam War was the last time to invoke the SS. Amerika is terrified to send the boys to fight in wars, so mainly only the poor who have no jobs, enter the military.

This selective service registration applies only in case of a draft, that is all, and then only to citizens and permanent residents, not anyone else.
