That area used to be called Dar e Alan. In Persian meaning Gate of the Alans. The Alans were a warlike race from the Caucasus without much of a history. The Caucasus mountains are a natural barrier.

It is interesting to note that Zulqarnain, As'hab ul Kahf (companions of the cave,) Khizr and Musa, two garden story, and Yajuj Majuj are mentioned in the same surah. Surah Al Kahf deals mainly with supernatural events and the lesson is that Allah swt knows what we can never know.

Gog and Magog were indeed tribes north of Caucasus mountains it was indeed known to Jews even then and that is why they had asked their question. Secondly, the events noted in Al Kahf are related to the kind of mischief brought by and during Dajjal's time. Note that end of times started with the coming of Prophet Mohammad(Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) ... Arabs have been and will continue to feel the wrath of Gog and Magog. Only the last group of Gog and Magog will come on the return of Isa(A.S.). Surah Kahf deals with resurrection after death as in As'sahab Kahf ... Dajjal will resurrect people after death ... yet Allah SWT shows that the lord the creator is not limited with time. People canbe brought back after centuries and it is not difficult for the Creator. Likewise an argument between an affluent atheist who says all he has is due to his own effort and if there is god than he'd be just as gracious to him(in the hereafter) as he is now. And Khizr who is wise and knowledgeable... one who also helps by the will of Allah SWT and that help is not always what meets the eye, while Dajjal will do things that placate to public opinion.

"Are they waiting for anything except the Hour, to come to them suddenly? But its Signs have already come!" (47-18, Surah Muhammad)

The Prophet (ﷺ) got up from his sleep with a flushed red face and said, "None has the right to be worshipped but Allah. Woe to the Arabs, from the Great evil that is nearly approaching them. Today a gap has been made in the wall of Gog and Magog like this." (Sufyan illustrated by this forming the number 90 or 100 with his fingers.) It was asked, "Shall we be destroyed though there are righteous people among us?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Yes, if evil increased."

Great post brother. The main lesson is to prepare yourself spiritually to meet the coming challenges. Lesson your reliance on material things and devote your time in the service of Allah swt as it is the only thing which will help you.

If faith is shaky when Al Masih Ad Dajjal comes, then those ones will be swept away into his camp.

Finally, do not rely on mere miracles, technologic prowess, or victory in warfare/dunya/public propaganda to gauge success, as these are all illusions. All blessings come from Allah swt and Allah swt even gave Shaytaan and Al Masih Ad Dajjal some gifts to test us.

Be so firm that like Ashab ul Kahf, you will try to escape and leave anything if asked to recant your faith. Allah swt will help you in matters you cannot see, just lower yourself and ask Him.

said: “Allah Almighty will say on the Day of Resurrection, ‘O Adam!’ Adam will reply, ‘I am at Your service, and all good is in Your Hand.’ Allah will say, ‘Get up, and take out the people of the Hellfire from among your descendants.’ Adam will say, ‘O Allah, and who are the people of the Hellfire?’ Allah will say, ‘From every one thousand, take out nine-hundred-and-ninety-nine to the Fire and one to Paradise.’ Thereupon, children will become hoary-headed, every pregnant female will have a miscarriage, and one will see mankind as drunken, yet they will not be drunken but dreadful will be the Wrath of Allah.' This was hard on them (the Companions of the Prophet

), so they asked, 'O Messenger of Allah! Which one of us is that one (who will be taken to Paradise)?' He

said, 'Rejoice, for it is one from you and one thousand from Gog and Magog.'

Allah Says (what means): {Until, when he reached [a pass] between two mountains, he found beside them a people who could hardly understand [his] speech. They said, “O Dhul-Qarnayn, indeed Gog and Magog are [great] corrupters in the land. So may we assign for you an expenditure that you might make between us and them a barrier?” He said, “That in which my Lord has established me is better [than what you offer], but assist me with strength; I will make between you and them a dam. Bring me sheets of iron” - until, when he had leveled [them] between the two mountain walls, he said, “Blow [with bellows],” until when he had made it [like] fire, he said, “Bring me, that I may pour over it molten copper.” So Gog and Magog were unable to pass over it, nor were they able [to effect] in it any penetration.

World is splitting between those who think all is science and those who are superstitious to the nth degree... both are susceptible to Dajjal ... one group is seeking Dajjal the other undermines it. Both will see in him someone filling their void...
Besides, he'll come at a time humanity will be at it's lowest eb going through a terrible drought and conflicts for resources and that is why him being able to project himself as a savior will resonate with much of humanity. Especially in this day and age where media provides a worldwide audience... something unheard of in the past. Global village is here, all it needs is a perfect exploiter.

Caucasus mountains is too central for people living there who 'scarcely understood a word'.

Three 'ways' (paths or direction) Zulkarnayn followed. To place where sun sets (West?), to place where sun rises from (East?), 3rd way - no direction can be derived but where there is a tract between 2 mountains.

These seem far far away lands. The description of sunset and sunrise is so explicit and unique. 18:83 '.. to all ends' to me is to all ends of earth.

3rd direction may just be another end.

I also don't think it's a cave either as yajuj and majuj can neither go over the mountains nor dig through under the barrier.

These two mountains must be really tall and impossible for these strong wildling humans to go over - most likely an extremely hostile environment on the mountains that would kill them.

Earth as we are taught and believe to be, can you think of any 2 mountains together that humans can't climb over?

Zulqarnain, went east to Caspian and west to Black sea... not places or distances insurmountable... Muslim understanding of Gog and Magog is same as that of Jews... that is people north of Caucasus mountains. There is Darial Gorge that goes through Caspian mountains and to this day has signs of different fortresses ...
Georgian language is a language isolate... they have their own script. Georgians live on the southern end of Caucasus mountains... that is what it is referred to... these were the people who had difficulty communicating with Zulqarnain.
Besides, Gog and Magog have come around Caucasus for a while now ... these people have been in conflict with Arabs since the crusades and will keep coming till the arrival of Isa(A.S.)

Most hostile area on earth, as we know it, is 'The South'. And we have the least bit of information about this 'south' with no access! Gog and Magog are amongst us... I don't know why this is so difficult to understand. There are people who relish in mystifying and trivializing ahadith and matters related to faith. If one objectively tries to understands, things start falling in place. The reason Gog and Magog are called by their ethnic name and not by religion is because they are essentially ones who put their ethnic group or race above all else. They may adhere or profess any religion but never in it's essence... they instead follow their own creed, their own values(or lack thereof)...
