HOW IAF, PAF AND PLAAF WOULD LOOK BY THE END OF 2017

How PAF,PLAAF and IAF would look by the end of 2017. I choose the year 2017 because I consider by this time all the three forces would retire their respective third generation fighters and they will be left with 4th gen fighters and hence. And even if any air force keep using their 3rd gen fighters, they are not included in the discussions.

PAF:

1. F-16 - 77 (blk15 - 45, blk 40 & 52 32)

JF-17 - 125-150 (blk1- 50 blk2 - 75 to 100)

3. J-10 - 36

Fighters phased out:

1. F-7 - 180 (Copy of Mig 21 bought from China) (3rd gen aircraft)

2. Mirage III - 75 (Bought from France in 1968 and second hand from Australia in 1990 after Australia retired it from their air force) (3rd gen fighters)

3. Mirage 5 - 82 (Bought 48 from france in 1973 and 20 second hand of their air force in 1990 and 14 in 2000 with Rose upgrade, which basically was a upgrade of air frame and some weapon bay.) (An upgrade variant of Mirage III basically a 3.5 gen fighter)

So total number of fighters with PAF by the end of 2017 will be in between 238 - 263.

PLAAF:

1. J-10 - 260/300 (approax) (190 already built and 110 expected of getting completed within next five year.)

2. J-11 - 210 (140 already built and 70 more on order.)

3. Su 27 - 76

4. Su 30mkk - 76

5. Jh-7 - 70 (Though less than 4th gen fighter but it actually serve as a bomber in PLAAF. Expected to serve till 2022 0r 2025.)

6. Su-35 - 24

J-16 - 36

Fighters phased out:

1. J-8 - 360 (3rd gen interceptor. Built on J-7 model.Enlarge version of J-7)

2. J-7 - 350 (Copy of Mig 21)

3. Q-5 - 130 (Early 1960's fighter.)

4. H-6 - 120 (Introduced in late 1950's era bomber.)

So total number of fighters with PLAAF by the end of 2017 will be in between 742 - 782.

IAF:

1. Su 30mki - 270 (190 already built, 40 more expected by 2014 and 42 super sukhoi deal to be finalised.)

2. Mig 29 - 68 (63 to be upgraded to Mig 29 UPG standard.)

3. Mirage 2000 - 57 (All to be upgraded to Mirage 2000-5 mk2 standard)

4. Mig-27ML - 102

5. LCA mk1 - 40

Rafale - 40

Fighters phased out:

1. Mig 21 - 153

2. Jaguar - 151 (Though IAF don't have any plans to retire Jaguar by 2017 but since it is a 3rd gen fighter hence disregarded. I firmly believe it's nuclear firing capability is making IAF to not go ahead with any plans of phasing it out from service.)

So total number of fighters with IAF by the end of 2017 will be approximately 577.

You went wrong there buddy. IAF is upgrading Jaguars into making it a 4th gen aircraft with Fly by Wire etc. So jaguars will be staying for a long time while MiG 27 will be retired with the coming of Rafales/LCA.

Timeline is 2017. Mig 27 plan to retire from 2025 onwards and more importantly it is considered to be a 4th gen fighter and one of the best fighter for ground attack role in IAF inventory thus it is there in the list dude.

As far as Jaguar is concerned first let them upgrade and then we may think to include in the list or not.

T-50 will be a prototype not for combat ready platform.

But their are reports that
The Indian Air Force will "acquire 50 single-seater fighters of the Russian version (Pak FA)" before the two seat FGFA is developed

IAF will now probably acquire all single seat version only. But it can only enetr service by 2020 or post 2020

First off, my friend you need to do some serious research on the fleets of the airforces you included ....
secondly in my humble opinion I think you should take the timeline to about 2020 where real drastic changes in technology of all three airforces will take place ...

Now Im only here for PAF so here are few of the corrections I can offer ...

1.F-16 (18 Block 50/52's , 45 F-16 A/B to be upgraded (5 upgraded F-16's already delivered) )

Bear in mind the MLU upgrades will put the old F-16 fleet on par with the new F-16 block 50/52's - (payload+mission range+engine improvements)

http://www.defence.pk/forums/pakistan-air-force/60896-paf-f-16-mlu-specifications-36-blk-52-prospects.html

2.JF-17 ( 50 BlockI , 50 Block II, post 2015 block III would start so you can say 20 odd block III's so 120 JFT's in total)

3.J-10 ... It depends .. if chinese engines are able to satisfy PAF and if the MMRCA deal materializes then there is a strong possibility otherwise there is no concrete evidence regarding the sales besides the TT's talking about it.(which BTW is not evidence its a hunch)

4.F-7 PG and Mirage Roses will still be there with avionics matching the early 4th generation fighters. (cant comment on the quantity, depends on the number of JF-17's inducted at the time)

So if we take a look at this the quantity would be somewhere between 280-320 aircrafts

Anyways nice try dude..

Mig 27 has began to be phased out and Jaguars upgrade also started, with one aircraft already delivered.

@Anony

Firstly,All Mig 27ML will be retired by 2017

Secondly,As far as Jaguar are concerned we are already upgrading it to Darin III standard which will have Glass Cockpit,More powerfull Engine,2 additional Hardpoint,EW suite etc....

Thirdly,By 2017 IAF will have around 2 Squadrons of Rafale in its inventory...

The end of 2017 PLAAF:
0. J-31 -unknown (really hard to say, currently not formal project for Airforce)

1. J-20 - 40 (2015 join PLAAF)

2. J-10A - 200 (approax)

3. J-10B - 100 (approax)

4. J-11B/J-11A - 250

5. Su-27sk - 0, all retired

6. Su-30mkk/Su-30mk2 - 76

7. JH-7A/JH-7B - 200

8. Su-35 - 24 (not confirmed yet)

9. J-16 - 70 (China copy of Su-30mkk)

Fighters phased out:

1. J-8 - less than 100,other retired (3rd gen interceptor. Built on J-7 model.Enlarge version of J-7)

2. J-7 - 100 (approax,1st target to retire), most retired

3. Q-5 - 0,all retired (2012 China military news never produce any Q-5,close the product line)

4. H-6 - less than 100 (old bomber, start to produce H-10)

5. H-10 - 50 (approax)

All Jaguars will be upgraded with new engine, electronic counter measures, multi functional display. That should be enough to keep it in service till 2025-30.

The full potential of the F-7PG version in the PAF has never been revealed.
It was the first BVR capable fighter in PAF inventory and with leading edge slats and cranked delta wings, proved it's capabilities in DACT with F-16s, hence i'll be very surprised if they are phased out by 2017. !!

Plus, much of the F-7PGs has considerably newer airframe, unlike the Ps.

We upgrading the Jaguars extensively as we speak, we wont phase them out by 2017. And I also doubt that PAF will phase out the Mirages by 2017

Mirage IIIs will be phased out, as it's becoming increasingly troublesome to find spares for those planes. Followed by Mirage 5s within 2020. Newer F-7PGs should find it's place in service till 2022.
