How close is Pakistan to default

.

Does it affect IMF loans?

Talks with IMF on ninth review delayed further

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had another round of engagement on Thursday but could not finalise a schedule for formal talks on the overdue ninth review of a $7 billion loan programme amid a lack of clarity on flood-related financial requirements for this fiscal year and declining revenue stream in the wake of import controls.

IMF have to be the dumbest things on the planet to keep giving money to the most corrupt nation on the planet: Pakistan.

Nobody is as dumb as your 12 grader army. When IMF or any other institution gives you money, they know that it cannot be repaid. So instead they reap benefits by making your decision makers dance to their tunes. Meanwhile the army makes you dance to their songs and mantra, all the while believing that they are invincible as they have nukes. They don't know there was something of soviet union in the past.

IMF is keeping tabs. That is why at the first hint of wrongdoing they just walk away and keep the phone off hook. Just for a moment, think they flat out refuse. Pakistan is already in DeFacto default - imports have been reduced to bare minimum. Mostly petroleum products and may be some buffer kept for food import due to floods. Any more squeeze will immediately lead to energy crisis leading to total seizing of economy. What are you going to do if trucks can't run? Sri Lanka problem, 10 times bigger is nobody's friend. I think IMF is playing right, releasing just enough liquidity to keep the wheel turning but not too much to allow siphoning.

Babur bro,

if there is a default, how will they pay soldiers?

They will be paid in PKR, not USD. GOP will be defaulting on dollar obligations, not on Rupee ones.

Regards

all govt salaries in PK will be paid in PK currency (rupee)
this will not get affected
the "soldiers" who already have foreign assets will be very much unaffected anyways
however, default will lead to many imports freezing so its possible soldiers may not get any imported weapons - china may still be willing to export though.

@Sliver

so its possible soldiers may not get any imported weapons

That should not be a problem, unless Pakistan is planning to start a war. Homegrown terrorists can be dealt with by domestic weapons only.
