It is arguably the best healthcare initiative in recent years, and easily one of the best policies of this government.

Shortcomings however are expected and to be acknowledged. Frankly, a few years ago if someone asked me whether Pakistan was capable of having semi-universal healthcare, I'd have said no, because even if we had a system in place, it would be impossible to afford it.

So from this perspective, whatever shortcomings there are in this programme... future governments SHOULD continue to expand, improve and increase coverage plus spending. It should become a permanent fiscal policy feature like Benazir Income Support has, if anything it has the capacity to be larger as Pakistan grows.

Sindh government won't allow it. Fed can't do shit about that... It can not indulge itself in this saas bahu shit with Sindh government.

Except Sindh, whole of KP is covered by sehat card since 3 years. I think whole of Punjab will be covered by end of this year. Also it is expanding to all parts of Baluchistan. It's every where but needs unbiased and open eyes to see.

I didn't select any options because what I believe isnt in options. It's a big deal. One should ask American or Europeans who pay alot for medical insurance. But then people are retarded and Dont know the impact of sehat card on Pakistani citizen life. So I think it won't do much good for PTI
What about Balochistan? Are they lesser pakistanis? Don't blame Sindh government,
when state is stop playing sindh card, Karachi didn't vote for PPP.

buddy You have Eternal Bhutto... whats the use of card there
Punjab has shareefs but Pindi and islamabad providing them too. So?

Salaam

It appears to be a revolutionary new move.

I met a guy whose son is doctor in a small city. He said that previously when people learnt they needed critical surgery or medical treatment that was a bit expensive, they'd just go home and wait till they die because many couldn't afford it.

After the introduction of Sehat card, many people who would've died previously without hope for treatment or bankrupted themselves getting medical treatment are getting the required treatment.

This is without a doubt one of the best things this government has done and if they are able to market it correctly could help them tremendously in the next elections.

Yes there are corruption issues and people gaming the system but that is something that happens in all sectors. These would be improved with time and people are going to benefit greatly from it as is.

I also think this will improve the availablity of good healthcare in smaller/poorer cities and towns as well as since the poor are insured as well.

Some of the comments in this thread are either misinformed or just full of malice. I know at least three people who are on live saving medications - who are blue collar workers and without the sehat card they would not be able to avail the live saving medications.

Case study:
31 YO admin employee for a private company - modest income of 31,000 PKR, rented his house, wife and 3 kids, diagnosed with cancer following complaints of appendicitis- free treatment via SKMH, application for sehat card approved - is currently on live saving drugs worth 100,000 PKR per month - issued free of cost.

Make of that what you will, where would an ordinary son or daughter of the soil get such treatment?

yes the government does make us pay for the NHS from other methods, taxes etc, but it costs around £360 billion annually to run the NHS.

1. So the government does compensate its spendings on healthcare by recycling it from the taxes. So in truth isn't this just an illusion of free healthcare ? :)

2. Though Cuba and North Korea are a lot poorer than Britain in Capitalist terms they have free healthcare and I don't think they have many taxes. As it is, taxes like income tax especially are really a legacy of feudal and monarchic times and should have been abolished in these modern times everywhere.

3. Since education in Britain, including medical education, is not free there is no reason for that 360 billion pounds expenditure in the medical system to exist. I think this is mostly material cost that is more expensive in Britain than in maintaining something say in India, Russia, Pakistan, Bangladesh etc.

But the NHS also ranges from dental care and opticians (free for student or people on benefit) to basic GP check.

Well, in Cuba and North Korea too dental care and optician care would be included within the overall healthcare and free for all sections of society. :)

Most people do everything from NHS, and the rest usually go to Turkey since Turkey is easily the cheapest and best for uk citizens outside the uk.

Before COVID there were many Britishers who would come to India too and I think treatment here is cheaper than in Turkey. Cheaper for Westerners. For Indians healthcare is not available unless they have money. Many suffer for long or die from illnesses like eye condition to kidney ailment to cancer to genetic conditions like SMA just because they don't have money. :( There are crowdfunding websites like Ketto and Impact Guru which raise money to pay for treatments of the public but how much money can they raise and for how many ? :) And these websites and the contributing public are doing the job that the Indian government must be doing.

Sehat card is applicable to where? Only for punjabis and pukhtuns? I didn't see it in sindh and Balochistan.

not for us "lesser Pakistanis"

Who needs sehat card when you have Bhutto?

you're both intelligent guys, you know it's the provincial govt of Sindh who has actually refused to participate in the scheme.

Yes, but what those operations or check ups would cost if the NHS was not there would be totally different, the amount of tax we pay for healthcare is nothing in comparison. However the conservatives (boris Johnson) want to privatise the NHS And make it how it’s like in America, overpriced And get health insurances. Also a huge amount of that £360 billion consists of wages etc and most of that £360 billion does not get covered by the public taxes since our taxes go into a range of different services such as you said, education, the queen, armed forces, and different amenities we enjoy.

This sehat card actually huge, it’ll be the largest free universal healthcare service in the world, Pakistan already has the largest ambulance service in the world. But this could all turn into crap if the other parties come into power.

For each family , household to children Coverage 10 Lakh Rupees per family
10 Lakh ~ 10,000 USD /Year

1647097102136.png

  • Free of cost emergency services
  • Free of cost maternity services
  • Free of cost surgical procedures
  • Free of cost hospitalization
  • Free consultations and follow ups
  • Transportation coverage

What Imran Khan has done is changed family status in Pakistan from Pay check to Pay check , to having ability to create saving from existing income, and also have peace of mind to pay for Medical Expenses (Emergency cost)

How it helps Women's Health ?
  • Child birth related costs now covered
  • Better care for Women in hospital
  • Families will take the women to Hospital for better care during childbirth
  • Families have more money left in pocket , to feed new child and not be under debt , at childbirth

How it helps Elderly?
  • Elder people with limited pension can now get proper treatment in old age even when they have limited resources

How it helps local Health Care?
  • Card is used in all best hospitals in Pakistan so instead of remaining empty because they were limited to rich class , now a poor person can go to get treated where a Rich person used to go , and Hospitals are forced to increase capacity and service

His approach is to give benefit to "All Pakistani"

Did someone asked to do operation in karachi from PPP?
Did someone asked from PPP to capture lands?
Did someone asked from PPP to collect Tax from Karachi?
All these are federal and establishment duties right...

I have bookmarked your post because I want to reply to the spendings part later as I get the thoughts but I will agree with you that Boris Johnson from his political positionings to his inclusion of people like the Hindutvadi Priti Patel, is definitely the person to completely privatize such a basic human right as healthcare, to make Capitalist profit from people's health disregarding that the sufferer can go into indebtedness.

Well, from your words and from what @AZADPAKISTAN2009 wrote in post# 25 it does seem to be a better system than before AFAIK but OTOH it seems not a fully free system. The government will cover not the entire cost of treatment but up to 10 lakhs. Now :

1. What if the treatment is needed for kidney transplant or cancer treatment which in India can cost between 10 lakhs to 27.5 lakhs, or Spinal Muscular Atrophy just whose injection in India's case has to be imported and costs 16 crores per dose ?

2. What if multiple members of a family are unless say through COVID or burns or road accident or house collapse and their treatment costs beyond 10 lakhs ?

Pakistan already has the largest ambulance service in the world.

That's quite nice.

But this could all turn into crap if the other parties come into power.

OK.
