How Awami League handed over South Talpatti to India

Lovely rant. But it still doesn't explain why your countrymen voted for the Awami league en masse!

To debunk bakws indian bs and put them in shame.

A voterless election?
One party in an "elected" guise

We have a world record in hand. The Guinness Book of records can now have a new entry — the parliament with the highest number of uncontested members in the world. The number has already reached the magic figure of 151 out of a total House membership of 300, which could likely entitle Sheikh Hasina to form her new government. The number of contestants for the remaining seats are the lowest ever in the history of Bangladesh’s parliamentary elections. As it now stands, out of nearly 92 million voters about 43 million were deprived of their right to vote. In the rest of the constituencies AL will ‘win’, except where it hands over the seats to their chosen few.
One wonders, where does all this leave the Prime Minister’s repeated commitment to upholding the people’s right to vote?
The much-maligned February 1996 election had only 49 uncontested MPs. Even under autocratic Ershad the number of uncontested winners was 18.
Election has been given a new definition and people’s will manipulated away from them. So far it has been a voterless election, as in the cases where votes may be cast the winner will already be known. Where has an elected democracy come to? People of Bangladesh deserve better.

India and Bangladesh
Embraceable you
NOT much noticed by outsiders, long-troubled ties between two neighbours sharing a long border have taken a substantial lurch for the better. Ever since 2008, when the Awami League, helped by bags of Indian cash and advice, triumphed in general elections in Bangladesh, relations with India have blossomed.

Control over South Talpatti 'significant gain' for India
news_image_2014-07-14_38089.jpg

Though leading Indian media outlets described recent verdict on maritime delimitation as a victory for Bangladesh, NDTV ran a story on Sunday claiming India was not the loser, reports UNB. The report titled 'UN Tribunal Resolves 40-Year-Old Maritime Dispute between India and Bangladesh' updated on its website on Sunday afternoon claimed that NDTV has accessed an internal government of India note that 'suggests otherwise'. "So has India lost out?...even though India believes the delimitation has been done in an arbitrary fashion, it is not the loser. Control of the disputed New Moore Island and concomitant access to Hariabhanga river is a significant gain," says the report. The island, supposedly rich in oil and natural gas, has been a traditional sore point between the two neighbouring countries. The Hariabhanga River, which flows around the Sundarbans in West Bengal and borders Satkhira district of Bangladesh, and the region holds twice the amount of hydrocarbons as compared to the Krishna-Godavari basin in Andhra Pradesh. The verdict is also good news for the fishermen of both countries who now have access to a larger area for fishing. Ending a 40-year-old dispute, a United Nations tribunal delivered its verdict on Tuesday on India and Bangladesh's maritime boundaries in the Bay of Bengal, awarding nearly four-fifth of the 25,000 sq km of the exclusive economic zone to Bangladesh. The verdict, binding on both countries, opens the way for Bangladesh to explore for oil and gas in the Bay of Bengal, and ends a dispute over a sea border with India that has ruffled ties between the neighbours. Both the governments have called it a win-win situation. "It's the victory of friendship and a win-win situation for the people of Bangladesh and India," Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali said on Tuesday after the ruling of the Hague-based Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA). "The settlement of the maritime boundary will further enhance mutual understanding and goodwill between India and Bangladesh by bringing to closure a long-pending issue," India's Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement. Besides, Firstpost.com, an India media outlet, ran an analysis titled 'UN panel verdict allows India access to Hariabhanga gas reserves, Dhaka gets 20 K sqkm EEZ.' "For India too it is a matter of satisfaction and also a diplomatic victory for several reasons. One, the United Nations' Permanent Court of Arbitration in Hague acknowledged India's sovereignty over New Moore Island and grants India concomitant access to the Hariabhanga river," Rajeev Sharma, Firstpost Consulting Editor and a strategic analyst, writes. The disputed region was near the mouth of the Hariabhanga River, an area of huge strategic importance for India in the coming decades. In 2006, India had discovered 100 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in a creek about 50km to the south of the mouth of the Hariabhanga within the contested region, he mentioned in his write-up. The Hariabhanga gas reserves are estimated to be almost twice what the entire Krishna-Godavari basin holds. New Moore Island, better knows as South Talpatty in Bangladesh, has been claimed by both India and Bangladesh ever since it came into being in Bay of Bengal following a cyclone in 1970. Nonetheless, the UN tribunal's acknowledgment of the Indian sovereignty in the area hands over considerable strategic leverage to India. That is because the region is said to be rich in oil and natural gas reserves. Now India can legally explore and exploit the natural resources in this area, says the analytical report. The second reason is equally important for India. While it is true that Bangladesh has 'gained' close to twenty thousand square kilometers in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), India has reasons to be happy as the award has split the area in question in favour of India which is significantly closer to India's claim than to that of Bangladesh, it says. Over and above these reasons there is a huge diplomatic take-away for both India and Bangladesh from the historic UN tribunal award, Rajeev Sharma mentioned in his write-up. Now that both sides have made substantial gains and ended a major bilateral dispute as per the international law, it should spur them on to go for an amicable settlement of two other major pending issues: land boundary agreement and Teesta water sharing, he concludes.

You are a pathological lier who come up with false maps and arguments. S. Talpatti is no more there, it is under the sea. So, why are you crying over a non-existent island.

when presented with overwhelming proof, indo Awami subservient class start calling other names. eastwatch is proving which class he belongs. And here is the proof that prompted eastwatch name calling.

Awami League in its filing did not recognize Talpatti existence but india did. And Awami publicly said they did not made claim because there was no Bangladeshi map. Yet survey of Bangladesh published maps shows talpatti existence. Bangladesh one day should bring these people to justice including those who are campaigning for indo Awami propaganda.

There is no Talpatti Island any more, it is under the deep sea. BD would have lost a few thousand sq. Km. of sea territory if it still existed. Because it was supposed to be recognized as Indian territory by the UN. India claimed this island long before it was even known by BD.

Inventor like you should know better ways to deceive us.

Talpatti is under or over water is irrelevant. Important part was india subservient Awami League did not lay claim to the area where Talpatti located and surrendered Bangladesh territory to india even before the trial. On top of Awami League indian subservient class claimed there was no Bangladeshi map. Just because eastwatch harping does NOT make Awami League anti Bangladesh culpability go away.
