What's new

How about China swaps its Type 055 for Russia's Yasen class SSN?

Mistral is just a floating box. And "Yasen" - is completely another case.

That's why we have to offer something as valuable as Yasen.

Russia can keep the priority to renew its nuclear arsenal and sub fleet, so the Type 055 is the solution to replace the aging Kirov and Slava. The project 22350 is a decent ship, but it is simply too small to become the backbone of Russia's future surface fleet.

Maybe you're right, but that will not happen because of the secrecy. Only in the case of forming the full-fledged union.

To build a good nuclear sub is not just about the manufacturing capability, but also about many years of designing experience and knowledge.

Although inside of the nuclear sub is mostly made of pipelines and valves, which is a piece of cake for us. Also, our fourth generation nuclear reactor is also on par with the US, but to bring all these things into the design of the nuclear subs is a different matter as you need many years of accumulative designing experience and secret knowledge, there are so many tricks in the design of the nuclear sub.

If we can get brainstormed by Russia's secret knowledge about the design of the nuclear sub, it will quickly help us to catch up with the US in term of the nuclear sub capability with our current technology on the nuclear reactor and everything else.

As for the reward, we can help Russia to fully restore its surface fleet capability which was mostly lost during the split of USSR.

Just look at Ukraine, it looks like it won't get stable for a while, but fortunately that Ukraine's aircraft carrier and gas turbine technology is now under China's possession.

With these technologies under our possession, we didn't just copy it, but these things now get thriving under our own possession.

The gas turbine for example is now greatly improved from the GT25000 from 24MW to 43MW.

Many old Soviet technologies are now transforming into the new technologies, so we are gladly to offer in exchange with Russia. And I also think that Russia needs to take back these missing technologies since 1991 but in the more advanced form.

Turbines of plant "Zarya-Mashproekt" that placed in the majority of Soviet and Russian ships are already replaced by the turbines of plant "Saturn". In the coming years Russia will completely replace Nikolaev's turbines on their own.
However, I still hope that Nikolaev will soon become part of Novorossia and glorious factories and shipyards of Nikolaev will get a second life.

Ukraine is now entering into a civil war, they simply stop making any progress, while the Soviet-related gas turbine technology is now greatly thriving in China. The most recent version can be enough to power up a 18500 tons cruiser/destroyer with the large room to host the railgun and the laser weapons.

I think the benefit of cooperating with China will help Russia to ease the pressure against the aging surface fleet, which will allow you to focus more on the renewal of the nuclear weapons and the sub fleet.

Didn't Russia also negotiate the Mistral class with France?

BTW, we heard that some Russian websites mentioned that is possible to incorporate the Chinese platform with the Russian weapons.

Mistral is a minor item. It is not a surface combatant. Russia never outsources key military hardware to any other country.
