History of Pakistan's Automobile Industry

so what happened to your automobile industry??? why did it die??

Is it because of nationalization of your industries which stifled the entrepreneurs??

Every Industry in Pakistan was destroyed by Zulfkar Ali Bhutto
He was a stupid socialist just like Nehru, but while Nehru only prevented India from excelling, Bhutto actively destroyed the country.

And Tata did have the support of the government that is how they survived.
Tata did not build everything only with "hard work"
They did it with "hard work" and politicians in their pockets.

This thread should be a slap on you guys faces who say Pakistan cant make even a car ;)

We should have been ahead of all the Asian Tigers by now if Bhutto had not started his vengeful politics to undo everything that Ayub Khan did.

Pakistan under Ayub Khan was a model country. Well respected and looked up with envy. You can see several 60s' Hollywood movies where Pakistan is mentioned in good words and PIA is shown as one of the top airlines in the world.

The reason was - an honest and dedicated govt. This is what we need now. We have better infrastructure, bigger educated mass of people and more money than when Ayub started reforms in 1958. If we have honest leadership, we will achieve economic prosperity in few years inshallah. :):)

I hope @Safriz forgive me for my transgression on this thread .

Mahindra & Mohammed was originally incorporated in 1945 by the brothers J.C. Mahindra and K.C. Mahindra and Malik Ghulam Muhammad in Ludhiana, Punjab to trade steel. Following the Partition of India in 1947, Malik Ghulam Muhammad left the company and emigrated to Pakistan where he became the first finance minister of the new state. In 1948, K.C. Mahindra changed the company's name to Mahindra & Mahindra...

Building on their expertise in the steel industry, the Mahindra brothers began trading steel with UK suppliers. They also won a contract to manufacture Willys Jeeps in India and began producing them in 1947.

if Pakistan build good jeep it fuking sell even average villager wants jeep they go on on on about it. families from uk go on on about it honestly this one market pak should go into instead UK pak have to import jeep n pay stupid amount on tax n shipping. solve that corruption watch how uk pak invest this is one of their favorite hobby, about cars jeep quad bike motor bikes. Most talk about why pak cannot build n should.

Socialism killed entrepreneurship in Pakistan. This is why the USSR crumbled along with East Europe.
And now cheap Chinese imports are making us lazy as well. We don't even realize that cheap imports are expensive compared to local production which increases wealth.

That doesn't really qualify as "making" a car. All the cars you listed are mildly reworked versions of previously existing vehicles. None of them are fresh clean sheet designs. Sure they were assembled in PK, but that's not the same as actually creating a brand new design of vehicle.
