Hillary called India ‘self-appointed frontrunner for UNSC’, ordered snooping

Also the snooping part. Wikileaks says CIA snooped all G4 countries along with the group of countries who's opposing them(forgot what the called, something consensus).

This is bad reporting. Refer to the Hindu article for more clear picture about what's going on.

Meaningless phrase ?? It shows your jealousy nothing else

If we are declare India front runner so we have valid reason.

@DRDO, Dev is favoring your POV only..

Coz we are the only declared nuclear power in the race..
Actually its the 1Bn pop which is a better argument... Otherwise Japan and Germany are probably going to be preferred more.

I don't think China and Russia are going to prefer Japan over India.

Also, Germany? Another European nation? that would make it 4 out of 6. Even though Germany has more of a right to be there than UK and France, this skewed balance is a major drawback in favouring Germany.

Arey yaar why are we even dicussing this 'private leak' that is 1.5 years old when the POTUS just blindly supported India's bid just a month back.

And for people who say Republicans will not support because of some Tea Party --- Well McCain is the one who exhorted Obama to support India's bid.

I sincerely wish the Republicans to win the next term and McCain to become the President (I wont mind Mr.Bush also :azn: )

I know it is difficult for some to digest that the POTUS himself explicitly supported India's candidature and it is perfectly alright given the human nature and after harbouring all these days a supposed notion of 'balance of power' --- but then reality itself is hard to digest. Aint it ?

Irrelevant. You clearly don't get my point.
Hillary's phrase is a tautology; it is a meaningless phrase.

the phase that appeares tout to you is a compliment to me...

compliment towards indian growing power...

.
So today we are ‘self-appointed frontrunner ....

Hillary not wrong it call it that way..

You seem to misunderstand me my friend, its just that that woman meant that word in a derogatory sense obviously but what i am saying is that today yes we can shoulder the high office (which we know is nothing but a vestige of post WW2 power structures that are shaking up top to bottom)

Also kindly tell me why shouldn't we be a self appointed frontrunner ?? whatever that is ?? its not that everybody in the world would knock our door and say hey i think ur a good find for the UNSC seat so we support you right??

POTUS blindly supported India's bid? Ok then. Yes, Karthic, the President of the United States was so smitten by his love of India that he wore a pair of blinders, disregarded all else and just made the statement "blindly".

There is still no framework, no agreement on which countries will be considered together, protests from US allies, no formal discussion in the UN on modalities... nothing!!

Please. There's rhetoric, and then there's just outright nonsense. Draw the line.

Whatever the case is.. its appalling that not one politician in India had the guts to day something about it..especially when they are so outspoken otherwise.

TL,

Blindly was used in the context there was no restrictions that the US had placed on India--- signing CTBT,NPT and host of those kind --- that they had previously insisted on.

Now the POTUS says signing CTBT and NPT are NOT needed for getting into the UNSC. Isnt this a sea change ? And dont say this was a sweetner for business deals. We are proud that we are able to offer business to them that they consider UNSC seat as a sweetener

Yes,I agree there is still no framework,no defined agreements etc.But then even I am not arguing that tomorrow morning at sharp 10:10 India will become the permanent member. It will take time ,maybe the next 5 -10 years --- but it is coming.

The POTUS just saying those words of explicit support (after so many years of giving equivocal answers) is in itself a big diplomatic victory and frankly not even many South Block officials expected such a candid support that they were pleasantly surprised

And as for as protests from US allies -- were you alluding to Pakistan because except from that no other country that matters opposes us. :D

If you think it is rhetoric and empty words --- be my guest.

This POTUS aint gona make through the Next Election ... !

Exactly --- Indians also dont want this man at the helm

McCain FTW.

And domestic matters and issues would of course be relegated to the byline, right? In your attempt to criticize you could have thought a second about it yourself.

.
Can anybody tell me what India will gain by being a permanent member?
Am I the only one here among Indians who is skeptic of any substantial gain.( Other than boosting our ego, which is not good for our neighbors)

Okay....So America knows that India is at the fore-front of the movement to reform the Security Council. India is too popular and influential to be taken lightly and Hilary orders the Indian movements to be carefully monitored. America has realized that India is powerful, and assumed the natural role of a leader and is taking appropriate steps. This only emphasizes the role of India in the international scenario and affirms India's international clout.

I seriously don't understand why anyone should be unhappy about this and think that this is bad for India. I am perfectly fine with my country's raising influence and the paranoia it causes for existing powers. If anything this is a compliment and Indians should take it as such instead of engaging in pointless arguments
