High-speed train derailment in China kills 1, injures 8

"BEIJING (AP) — The driver of a high-speed train in southern China was killed and eight people were injured when two cars derailed early Saturday after hitting a mudslide, state broadcaster CCTV reported.
The accident occurred midmorning as the train was entering a tunnel in the inland southern province of Guizhou. It had been traveling on a regular route to the coastal business center of Guangzhou.
Those injured were in stable condition and the other 136 people aboard the train were evacuated safely, CCTV said."

The casualties are official figures and not to be trusted , just like the Chinese hsr.
Don't Chinese trains have any safety measures ?
First 40 died , officially, and 200 were injured in a hsr crash , and now this ?
10 years ago this happened

10 year from now same story

I'm not saying flying is safer than trains but certainly the infrastucture requirements and maintenance are far less. Plus less noise pollution from high flying aircraft. Although the low flying aircraft are a problem as where I am low flying helicopters are common.

Sorry didn't see your post earlier maybe because you replied to me soon after you replied to the previous member and this merged my post with that and didn't generate an alert for me. :)

Agree, aircraft have lesser infrastructure than railway. And yes, helicopters certainly have the noise factor though the cyclorotor aircraft which you introduced to me, it is not known what a six-passenger cyclorotor skytaxi or a 20-passenger skybus will sound like. But I was especially talking about the airship which has seen a resurgence ( airships are silent too ) :

i am just worried about bilal in Bangladesh, who is keen to buy cheeni trains.

Why should it be a worry or concern to you in India whatever we decide to buy in Bangladesh?

There was a time when India ONLY bought EMD licensed locos using remanufactured US parts. Now it assembles GE locos as well as other electric only freight locos. It is free to do so. Did they ask us in Bangladesh before Indian Railways set up loco assembly facilities in Bihar and Madhepura?

India buys assembled EMD GT50 and GT46 equivalent locos due to their needs, we (and Pakistan) buy GT42ACE locos. Indonesia buys GT38AC locos for their Sumatra lines.

Each country buys motive power according to their need and from the best and most reliable vendor.

If Chinese locos are better spec'd, more reliable and cost less than EMD's or Progress Rails' stuff, then no one can stop Bangladesh Railways from buying those. It is our money after all. Outsiders' concerns are not relevant.

@satyamev

Satya bhai,

More Indians get run over daily by slow speed trains while they are taking their daily dump.

If this was five years ago, I'd be so quick to post Indian railway defecation images and shut this guy up pronto.

Nowadays, it irks my sensibility. No more.

Let's all be real. In our Desi countries all urban rail situations are nowhere near Chinese standards. Bad mouthing Chinese Rail infra or equipment is pointless unless we reach that standard...which will take at least a decade if not two....

I agree. When I started blogging on Indo-Pak matters on chowk.com almost two decades ago, I used to be in the same frame of mind. But I guess some of eventually outgrow that.

And even if we become better than Chinese, or better than each other, what is the point of badmouthing each other.
