In Lahore a lot of non-Hindus get into the spirit of things, just for some shugal.

Plus the sisters are always getting some money in return for a string, so they are really into it.

Spent over a decade living in Lahore and never actually heard of anyone practicing this Hindu Tradition.

Happy Raksha Bandhan to all the hindu members and everyone in general.

I remember we used to celebrate this in school. The school used to give us half day which was a great thing and our hands used to be filled with rakhis from all the gals in the class.
I was famous in primary and middle school for getting the best presents for the girls

Oh and btw as everyone knows, girls lurvvvvvvvvvvvessss this day and guyyys are petrified, and righfully so

In fact hinduism does not restricts anyone to practise anything. Like if i want to pray in a church hinduism does not restrict me neither it restricts other faiths. Actually hinduism is bit complex so easily misintrepreted. Hindusism believes in oness of god though majority of hindus do not understand this fact.

Good point. Hinduism is misunderstood more by Hindus than people of other faiths. There is no restriction on your mode or method of prayer, and you are a true Hindu if you are a good human. Period. So much for VHP's propaganda. It is interesting explaining to Americans how I can be a good Hindu if I pray in a church!

Back on the topic, I was fine with girls typing rakhis till 6th/7th standard...and almost felt happy for some weird reason But I became smarter after I changed my section and didn't let the new set of girls become my mooh boli behens. I used to give some excuses like my sagi sisters will feel offended if I allowed classmates to tie rakhis...worked right through school and engineering!

Raksha Bandhan, a Hindu festival to celebrate the relationship between sisters and brothers, was celebrated across the country on a sober note.
This festival is celebrated on the day of the full moon of the Hindu month of Shraavana. According to the tradition, a sister ties a rakhi on the wrist of her brother. After the tying of rakhi, gifts are exchanged.
However, Dr Ramesh Kumar, the Patron of the Pakistan Hindu Council, said that this time the festival was celebrated in a simple way due to the ongoing situation in the country. “Although the festival of tying threads was celebrated, no large gatherings took place as our people are suffering a lot because of the floods. Not only are they shelter-less, they are not being provided any aid.” He appealed to the government to assist them.

The only day i cut off my relation with outside world..didnt even attend the phone .. i tried to explain the gals that i am from south India and i dont belive in it ;-) i even tried to play religious card here but no help ..so now prefered to stay at home rather than going out side in this particular day

Religion is associated with almost everything in India. if you visit India specially South you will see it.

You can see even Swastka in these rakhis .
