actually we have 2 navratras. one is at this time and second one is at the time of dashera 20 days prior to diwali in months of october november. at that time that dance with sticks and all goes on.

Interesting - now that's leading to another question (hope you don't mind me asking)

I know you said that Hindus fast for these 9 days - Do you guys fast during those 20 days (time of dashera) as well? If yes, then that makes 29 days of fasting; pretty much like us (we fast for 29-30 days)

Actually no we fast for only 9 days that time also. But we do have other many festive where we have to fast like shivaratri and others. But that also depends on individual beliefs. Many people keep fast on monday and tuesday every week. All depends on individual beliefs.

And apart from that in any of the major poojas (individual wish) and yagna whole family fasts till the procession is not complete.

then we have karwachauth for women where a women keeps fast for her husband and prays for his long life. breaks the fast only with food from husbands hand.

Ajpirjada thats a bit complex question....

Actually as many think Hinduism including hindus as the polytheist religion which in fact it is not. When we say we pray to a specific god we are indirectly praying to the supreme being.

Here we have 3 beliefs

Shivaites who believe that everything originated from him and he is the supreme being.

Vaishnavites who believe that vishnu was the all creator and he is the supreme being

And finally those who believe in Shakti whose manisfestation is Durga.


Ram was basically reincarnation of lord Vishnu in the human form. People pray to Ram indirectly praying to Vishnu. Praying to Ram or Krishna means praying to Vishnu only.

so there is one Supreme Being and then others who represent powers of God (avatars if i may call them for simplicity).
however Ram and Krishna are not avatars but reincarnation of lord Vishnu.
Wats the name of Supreme Being?
and how many avatars are there in total?

great thanks dude, another question (now i know you would be like gosh .. ) how is the fasting perform? like what's the duration and how is it done? for example we Muslims stop eating at Dawn (just before the Fajr prayer) and start Iftar (start eating) at sunset (Maghrib) - between dawn and sunset, no eating, no drinking, no ... (zaki probably knows) well there are other things too but I think you would have gotten the idea.

I think Buddah is for Budhist, no? may be Adwitiya can provide a better answer.

yup right...but you know na..religion/faith has become so much complicated these days, people are killing each other.. so I prefer to keep it simple and believe in my faith say Jesus in my case but I respect all others faith without digging into its root and authenticity..I personally feel that faith is a personal matter and never insult others faith on ground of authenticity of their belief ....you and me have not seen more than 100 yrs so all is about faith..Praise the lord.

no actually avatars are the reincarnations only so gods cannot be considered that. Avatar is god who come in human form on earth. Gods are heavenly beings which are provided with certain tasks to take care. At times they can be compared with the ancient greek gods to an extent.

As i said the belief for supreme being is divided among people. Some consider Shiv, some as vishnu and some as durga.

There are total 10 avtaar of vishnu, of which 9 have already taken place and one would take place at the end of kaliug (If you dont know about kaliyug let me know i ll ellaborate.).

I thought majority of Hindu beliefs have been derived from the teachings of BUDDAH . or atleast there were some Buddah techings in Hinduism . Just asking coz i have very limited scope of hindu religion ..?

we have to bath early pray according to the rituals and then at the end of the day we again have prayers then we can eat. the food which we eat also depends on the kind of fast and for what ritual the fast is being used. for cooking food we use a specific kind of salt interstingly known as lahori namak.

Generally who are not good at fasting and are not capable are allowed to take fruits but no what we call as annn... (like wheat rice maze and all )

and of course we cannot have non veg during this time.

do you think i don't fast during Ramadhan? so i wouldn't know about it? and i have read few books about hinduism also so whatever Adwitya is saying is correct a part from Budha's question. I believe Buddha was the founder of Budhism and he is not the Avatar of Vishnu like Adwitya said
